Well, after converting a portion of my DATs to CD I'm finally selling my
Tascam DA20 and CDRW700. Pro Digital just replaced the heads on the DA20
last month so it's as good as new and I've had it about 4 years. The Tascam
CDRW700 is only a year old. Shipping is additional but if you live in the
Philly area I can physically meet up. Here's what I'm looking for.
Tascam DA20 $500
Tascam CDRW700 $425

Michael Glabicki, of Rusted Root, is currently doing a
solo tour. I was able to get a very nice SBD recording
of one of his shows a couple of weeks ago. I don't
think his sound guy was too happy about it, but he was
cool enough to let me stay plugged in. If anyone is
interested in a copy let me know. I'm up for a trade
or b&p, whatever's easiest for you. The whole show
fits on one disc.
It's free to the first three responses I get.
And on an unrelated note, I'm looking for any info,
sources, or sites about building cabinets for stereo
speakers. I would gratefully appreciate any help the
readers of this list could provide. Thanks!
Charles

Anybody have problems with Sony DAT 60 m. I can hear this weird
scratchy, static sound below the music and during quiet passages.
Thanks, BB

SSIA - any and all artists from this past year's Farm Aid performance. Note
that the archived webcast will be made available to Farm Yard members at
some point in the future, and a special two-hour edited broadcast will air
on PBS on Thanksgiving evening. Rumors also indicate the likeliness of a
similar DVD release to the 2001 event as well...
Thanks...

Seth talked about this in some (very) old posts, so maybe he has more info?
Others?
In my latest batch of audio restorations was a PCM-F1 recording,
transferred directly to a wave file for me by a guy still has one of those
adapters. It took him quite a while to get a good read from the 20-year-old
tape.
Here's the problem: The pre-emphasis bit was set, and the transferred
result has the pre-emphasis.
Any advice about how to reverse this process? This is a
restoration/remastering job, so I'm not just copying the info to a new medium.
Thanks,
Dennis

I just met John recently when he graciously contacted me to offer me his
Tampa Jeff Beck show that he recorded a while back. He seemed like a very
nice guy.
My question is this: If he was only 41 when he passed, how was the taping
shows in 1970? Surely he wasn't hauling gear in to Derek and LZ shows when
he was around ten years old?
Was there a misprint in the obituary?
Have a nice day, Danny

I'm wondering if anyone out there has taped Ravi in the past, either with
permission or stealth. I assume stealth is easy enough, but if anyone has
run full rigs with his permission, I'd love to know. I emailed the Shankar
foundation about taping, but have yet to receive a response. He is playing
2 shows within range of me, and I'm hoping to do both shows! I've only seen
him once before, but was so totally blown away, I've been waiting for 13
years to see him again. The other times he played in my state were private
shows, of which I had no idea and no way to get in.

I don't know if it was him or not but doing a
little bit of math suggests he was taping since the
age of 9.
Its possible but does anyone here find this just
a little suspicious?

I'm shocked and saddened by this news. I had the pleasure of meeting John
twice. Both taping Ratdog shows in Florida. One of the nicest, humble
human beings you could ever associate yourself with. He must have had
thousands of contacts and trading buddies, but always remembered my name and
face, always returned my emails, even once dropping me an email to see if
everything was OK. I don't know much about him personally, I do remember a
conversation not long after 9/11 with him telling me the "cab" business is
taking a hit because no tourists are traveling. That coupled with his email
addy of "taxiboy" I assumed he was a cab driver, but never prying anything
further, cause, well, none of that matters in "our" world. We all share one
commonality and that's the love of music, so our conversations centered
around that. If anyone has any more info on John...please share it. 41 is
way too young. I don't think he smoked...anything.
