The Waves plugin uses a Paragraphic EQ with the settings at -9.4dB @ 5225Hz and 7.0Q for DAT/CD de-emphasis. I'm sure if your software has a paragraphic EQ you can just plugin these settings and get a pretty good approximation of the de-emphasis EQ curve. Take Care, Paul ------------------------------ From: Maria Aguirre Subject: Question for APC Tapers... Date: Sun, 19 Oct 2003 23:25:38 -0500 Hello fellow tapers, I was thinking of going to the New Orleans Voodoo Fest, and I wanted to tape A Perfect Circle; Ive done stealth taping many times before (mostly Tori Amos), however, I am a little apprehensive about taping APC after reading this from their website: Prohibited Items and Actions - Smoking of any type - Cameras, Audio/Video Recorders - Lasers, Flash Lights, Fireworks or Glow Sticks - Knives, Glass, Spikes, or Chains over 12" - Moshing or Crowd Surfing - Any item or action deemed to challenge public safety YOU MAY BE EJECTED FROM THE VENUE WITHOUT THE OPPORTUNITY TO RETURN FOR ANY OF THE ABOVE VIOLATIONS. * AUDIO/VIDEO MATERIALS CONFISCATED WILL NOT BE RETURNED * I realize that legally they cannot confiscate my stuff, but I was wondering if anyone has taped them, and if so what was your experience. Thanks in advance, .:: Maria Aguirre ::. - Boot Trading Page: http://boots.freezingthatframe.com - Tori Stories Page: http://freezingthatframe.com "Just tell your gods for me, all debts are off this year -- they're free to leave... yes, they're free to leave." - Tori Amos ------------------------------ From: "Chris Black" Subject: ISO Chicago Taper for 10/23 Date: Mon, 20 Oct 2003 00:38:33 -0400 Hi Folks, Looking for a kind soul to catch a real talent in Chicago this week. Joe Goodkin will be performing, solo acoustic, on Thursday, 10/23 at the Pontiac Cafe in Wicker Park. This is from his band's website (www.burnromeburn.com): --snip-- For now, you'll have to do with another solo acoustic performance by Joe on October 23rd at the Pontiac Cafe in Wicker Park. There's a rumor, and this is just a rumor, that he may try something incredibly dumb and perform, in it's entirety, for the first time ever in a non-academic setting, his half-hour solo acoustic version of Homer's Odyssey. We know what you're thinking: BORING. But really, it's not. Okay, maybe it's a little boring. But even if you like acoustic music and hate literature, you'll still half-enjoy the performance, kind of like Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin in the movie All of Me. --snip-- Please let me know if you'd be interested and I can likely get you on the list. Can probably expect board access although I've never been to the Pontiac. Thanks in advance to anyone willing and able to help. Sorry about the Cubbies. Chambers" Subject: RE: RIP John Tsalikes Reply-To: Date: Mon, 20 Oct 2003 09:37:41 -0400 Wow...I just found this out. We lost a great taper and a good friend. I met John online several years ago (from this list I believe) and we found that our tastes were very similar so we immediately hooked up on some great trades. Anyway, we became great virtual friends, emailing almost weekly to check in and see who was taping what shows and covering for each other when favorite bands came to town. He always produced top notch tapes and was relentless in his coverage of an incredible number of shows. I had the pleasure of finally meeting him when Roger Waters rolled through Tampa. John told me he would pick me up at the airport, and when I arrived, I called his cell phone and he rolled into the passenger pickup in his, you guessed it, yellow cab. It was really hilarious as he argued with the airport security saying he was *not* picking up a fare, so *no* he did not have to get into the cabbie line. It was magic...we had some time before the show, so he took me to my hotel, then we hung out in his cab and he was showing me his rig, we listened to some of his masters, he gave me a few shows he had taped for me, giving me advice about taping at the Ice Palace, and finally we agreed he would try to capture a ALD and I would do a backup audience. Then we headed off to the venue earlier, we probed every entrance trying to *sneak* in for a sound check, then running scanners trying to find the wireless signals during the soundchecks...no luck. But damn, he was relentless. After the show, we went back to his cab, checked our tapes, and his was mostly useless...(damn!)...then we went to his "favorite restaurant", which was a Denny's on the other side of town, where we sat and ate and drank coffee until 2-3 am. Then he took me back to my hotel...my flight was at 8am, and when I went to check out at 6, he was sitting outside asleep in his car. I woke him up, and he said he thought he would just hang out since he didn't have any calls, and give me a lift to the airport. He never would take a dime for all of this, even when I offered to pay his gas...his only request "...just send me a dub". John and I pretty much had weekly discussions, requests for shows, technical discussions, etc. He had some kind of disease that really began taking its toll. He got hospitalized a few times, but always popped back up a few weeks later running full blast. He would complain about the cab business, and how the insurance sucked and he couldn't hardly pay for the meds and doctors bills. I tried sending him some money and he sent it back...I never could tell how old he was...he certainly seemed older than 41 to me...I figured him for late 40's early 50's. Oh well...it doesn't matter, he was a great friend and a great taper. Take care bro. I will miss ya. Craig Chambers --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. I have cool edit 2000 and I'm not sure how I can use any of the filters to reduce the sound while still maintaining the music. If anyone knows what to do in this situation or can suggest another program, please let me know. Any/all help is greatly appreciated, Thanks. On another note, TDK, Fuji, and Imation discs are now manufactured in Taiwan. I know TDK and Fuji used to use Taiyo-Yuden cdrs but have discontinued using them. Can anyone recommend a good source for Taiyo-Yuden cdrs at a decent price?
