I am selling off the jewel of my stereo system, the workhorse of the Sony line: the R500. This thing is a gem, in perfect condition with low hours and gentle use. I have never had a single problem with this deck, and it is head and shoulders above the 10 or so decks I've owned over the years. Comes with original box and manual. The only thing that distinguishes this from being showroom clean is the small 'Steal Your Face' Grateful Dead sticker on the left rackmount edge. Easily Removable. I'm asking $450 plus shipping. Drop me a line if you're interested.
Robert

In trade, I have over 3,625 excellent quality masters & low generation entries on my list for trade. Please forward your lists or web sites if you are interested in a trade.

Subject: Unloading some gear
Date: Wed, 5 Nov 2003 08:11:43 -0700
I'm considering getting rid of some gear that hasn't seen much use lately. I
thought I'd test the waters here before trying eBay. Let me know if any of
this sounds interesting.
Matched pair of Okatava MC012s
3 caps - omni, hyper, and cardioid
-10 dB pads
Clips to attach to a T-Bar
I'd like to get $350 for the mics and accessories.
I also have and AT T-bar and 13' Bogen stand. Make an offer.
Denecke PS-2, transformers, and cables to go to consumer line-in miniplug.
I'd like $100 for these.
If anyone want all of this (full nice sounding & versatile budget rig - just
add DAT, MD, or other recorder) I'd take $450 for everything.
Onkyo DT-9000 full sized DAT deck. It's in perfect working condition with a
cosmetic ding. Coax and optical S/PDIF in/out. A real workhorse (transferred
quite a few shows with it). Never had a problem. I'd like to try and get
$300.
Sharp MD-R1 bookshelf sized MD deck with digital output. Good transfer deck.
$100

Attention techies: My dealer says I can use Ultralink
video cables instead of digital coax for connecting my
DAT deck. Specs on cable, shielding, and insulation
are the same. Specs on the connectors are different,
but I was told by ultralink that they are 75 ohm. Any
comments on whether this is acceptable or not? The
digital coax is almost twice the price of the video
cable. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey Now!
The original Parliament Funkadelic is playing here on Saturday.
This is not the P-Funk Allstars.
It's this band: http://www.originalpfunk.com/
I can not find any info that says they are taping friendly.
The production manager at the venue does not wanna let me tape.
I emailed the band at: band@originalpfunk.com and the email bounces
back as undeliverable. I emailed the only other email address I could find
and it was the booking agent. I have not gotten a reply.
If I could find a contact person or some information that says the band
allows taping, I might be able to pursuade the production manager at the
venue to let me tape.
I would be happy to make a copy for the band!
Can anyone help??
If so, please reply offlist.
Peace,
D

The only important spec is the "75 ohm" (and that the connectors fit).
I've never had problems using cheap video cables for digital
connections; the bitrate this message travels with is much higher than
S/PDIF and I assure you the Internet is not running over $500/foot
magic silver cables, yet somehow the words you see are the same as the
ones I send (and often even what I meant to type).

If it's 75 ohm cable, it should be fine. It's pretty hard to mess up a
digital signal--even in long runs, but the short runs used by most DAT
users are pretty OK with cheap audio cables. I've even used 24 guage
phone hookup wire (fits nicely into a sony 7-pin) and alligator clips
and it worked fine for a 2 foot run. Of course, I wouldn't recommend
cheap jury rigging, but decent video cables should be much more than
adequate for your needs.
