Alright, so maybe everybody else isn't quite as excited as I am about this

visit the beautiful campus and check out one of the greatest jazz schools on
earth. Before the show, please visit Sky Guitars at 110 W. Congress (on the
right off of University Dr.) for any musical needs. Who knows, maybe you'll
spot EJ there.

In your words: you're all wet. None of the current consumer portable MD
decks have digital out. Only digital in. If you want digital transfers from
MD you have to get a separate deck with digital output (which are pretty
uncommon these days). Try eBay and look at the specs for any deck you find
at www.minidisc.org before believing seller's claims.

...try try again. The guy who bought my Sony RM-D3K System Adaptor Kit (i.e.
portable DAT remote control unit) the first time I posted it on Ebay flaked
out. So it's up again for its second, and hopefully final, go-around.

Diane,
After about 3 months using the Marantz PMD 670 (and a year with its
predecessor, the PMD 690), I give it A+, two thumbs way up, five
stars ... whatever the top rating, that's what it gets from me. For
$650, I defy you to come up with a DAT machine that is even close to
the PMD670 for ease of use, audio quality and pro features: XLR
inputs, phantom power, s/pdif i/o, USB i/o, selectable sample rates
...and, as you mentioned, the option to record in uncompressed .wav
or .mp3 or .mp2 in a wide range of bit rates. Pulling files from the
CF card right into your computer for editing and/or archiving to CD
couldn't be easier and, even if you use high quality CD blanks, you
still don't approach the cost of DATs. An added bonus: no moving
parts means totally silent operation so if you're recording in a
quiet room, the sound of the machine is ... no sound. No motor
translates to longer battery life and lighter weight. Also, the PMD
670 mic preamp is very clean. CF cards are easily available and
regularly on sale. One caution (which Marantz mentions on its
website): the IBM Microdrive, which works very well in the PMD670, is
more sensitive to bumps and jolts than a regular CF card so if you're
using it on the run, better to go with the totally solid state CF
cards.

Make offer, I'll take what I can get;
Paid $300 for Rodes, about $350 for D7, all works
fine.
The D7 doesn't have a battery sled so you'll have to
figure a way to power it.
Peace
