I taped "A Mighty Wind" in Seattle 11/14, front row orchestra pit, Schoeps
CCM4s>SXM2>D100. It was hysterical. All the major players from the movie
were there, with music by the New Main Street Singers, The Folksmen, and
Mitch and Mickey. Fill on the second disc is The Folksmen's appearance on
World Cafe.
I can do a few trades on CD-R, and am especially looking for high-quality
recordings of the Carpenter/Colvin/Williams/Griffin tour-- got to the show
in Seattle late last night and decided not to tape. Other stops on the
Mighty Wind tour also welcome.

I was hoping that someone could help me out and recommend some possible ways
for me to reduce hiss when editing my recordings. I use Peak 3.01 on osX,
trying to get the hiss out of the quieter parts of King Crimson I just
recorded (Friday-Kingston, ny) and I have no idea how to do it!
Any help would rock my world

Ah, the responsibilities of being a new dad forced me to miss another
show (since my priorities are now straightened out, it doesn't even
phase me anymore!). I was hoping someone with a nice rig made it
into the Warfield Saturday night for the Singer Songwriters Tour
featuring Mary Chapin Carpenter, Shawn Colvin, Dar Williams and Patty
Griffin (aka the Mail Order Brides from Hell). My backup tapers had
broken seats in the balcony and were relocated to a really crappy
spot on the floor by the bar. . . Grovel, grovel, grovel . . . Also
happy to set up trades for other shows from the Mail Order Brides. .
. tons of Chapin and Colvin to trade.
Thanks as always!!

2 x Denecke PS-1 (not 1a) http://www.denecke.com/prod04.htm
[Modified to power from 9.6-volt RC NiMH battery]

1 x Radio Shack NiMH/NiCd 6/7.2/9.6-volt charger
Pictures and more details available at

Add some microphones, cables, and a DAT deck/MD/Jukebox 3 and you are ready
to go.
The way I see it, used electronics which are in good shape are worth around
half the new price. The Inbox goes for $310 these days, and a Denecke PS-1
is $150. Add the 2 x RS 9.6v batteries and charger (2 x $25 + 1 x $40) I
come up with $350 shipped.
I will also throw in a set of short Canare StarQuad XLR>XLR cables to
connect the PS-1’s to the Inbox. They work well if they are all in one bag.

Subject: attn: tapers for White Stripes NYC Roseland 11/18- 11/20/03
Date: Mon, 17 Nov 2003 21:12:12 -0800 (PST)
hey
if anyone is taping the White Stripes on the 3
upcoming dates at Roseland in NYC (11/18, 19 + 20)
this week, PLEASE tape the opening band, Autolux.
they're a local (for me) L.A.-area band, and i've seen
em (and taped em) many times, and they're fucking
awesome...i have many goodies to trade, i can tape
local shows for you in exchange, or i can compensate
you w/ blanks, drink money, gas $, whatever. i
obviously can't buy you a ticket tho cause all shows
are sold out, and ebay/scalper prices are ridiculous.
(that's why i can't get there myself...i was
considering a roadtrip after flying to boston and
meeting up w/ some friends...that's how much i like
this band.) they don't really allow open taping...if
you talk to eugene, the bassist/singer beforehand and
tell him you know me, promise the band a copy, tell em
you'll keep it under the table, are nice, etc., they
MIGHT be able to hook you up w/ a board patch, but
it's not certain and i don't want to promise
anything...i don't know (and don't think) they have
their own sound-person at this time...it might be too
much of a risk for you, esp. if you're holding gear at
that time...i dunno how the white stripes feel about
taping. (go for stealth SBD, maybe? it's been done at
this venue before. i have a nirvana stealth board from
'93 and it sounds fucking great.) here's some Autolux
reviews i dug up, particularly of live shows, to
encourage you (excerpted/edited for length):
"The jewel in the crown has to be LA's Autolux....
Live, Autolux are breathtaking - a combination of the
rock punch of early Smashing Pumpkins and the
psychedelic sprawl of The Flaming Lips...[with] their
wash of feedback-laden guitar effects, Autolux provide
an almost religious experience. If there's any
justice, this is the band you'll be talking about in
2002." Jason Reynolds - New Music Express
"When was the last time you had to buy advance tickets
to see a local band perform in your
neighborhood?...[Autolux is] the freshest thing to
have come out of L.A. in far too long. Throw away your
BRMC discs, avoid the Brian Jonestown Massacre, and
listen to your Medicine recs one more time prior to
trading them in to buy a ticket. Yeah, Autolux are
that good." Jason Pettigrew -Alternative Press, 100
bands to watch 2002
...and for any Tool fans out there, here's some praise
from Maynard Keenan:
[9-8-01] Maynard announced on toolband.com:
"Autolux...includes Greg Edwards on guitar. Greg
played bass in a band called Failure, which toured
with us for several years. Those of you familiar with
Failure's music may remember [some] examples of Greg's
level of inspiration and genius. Greg and his
companions Carla and Eugene inspire me. Their dynamic
is pure. They listen to each other. They are concerned
about the art of writing and translating and it is
apparent every time i see them perform."
Please tape this band! (and get in touch w/ me!) i
have many goodies to trade, or can tape los angeles-
area shows for you in return... even if you don't like
this band, you'll at least have some good
trade-bait once their record comes out (they're just
finishing it up now) and they gain a bigger/national
following. in closing, i'll quote someone whose name i
can't recall (maybe on this list?) who was encouraging
tapers to tape opening bands: "Remember, even Nirvana
was an opening band once." ;)
Thanks, and enjoy the show(s), if you're lucky enough
to attend.

Thanks to one very pleasant taper, I have a nice copy of this show on
DAT. That Taper was close to center in Row A of Sec B. There are 26
or so rows in the center of Sec A, and I noticed several stands of
Tapers with FOB stands, and Etree has listed this show as being in
circulation from a kind soul in Sec A, Row K, about DFC it appeared from
my seat on the left side of the center-left aisle in Sec A, Row Z. If
the taper, or someone who got a tape from the center FOB, Row K stand,
I'd really like to hear how the show sounded on DAT from a bit closer.
I don't have a list of the 40 or so DAT's I have, but pretty well know
them. If anyone would be willing to make a trade or B+P of the DAT, I'd
be grateful. I do have a DAT from the last previous ABB show in LA,
6-8-02, at the Wiltern, recorded by the same taper who I got this years
show from. I don't mean to be rude to the taper who I got the tape
from, and will spin ya a copy if it's any clearer. The Sec B recording
is pretty damn good, IMO.

Unfortunately I was in row 4 directly in front of the left stack of

the best. I know some of you birds that were up in the front row of the

If anyone's feeling generous, let me know!
