You'd only be able to get one on rebate because the receipt would be in your own name unless you had your friends order them. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Maybe I need a new head-drum. Is Sony doing an "entry level" repair like they did in the past? Who's doing it? What price? Carlos E. All are 1 time use and are all certified low/no errors - are great sounding shows from my AKG Oade rig Mostly Phish, moe.,ABB, Mule and Bluegrass - did not list, so as not to clog up digest. Will throw in those nifty DAT RAX that hold 40 each. Would like to sell as one batch, but will consider breaking into 2 batches of 40 each Asking $1.50 each plus postage which would total approx $ 130.00 with estimated postage for whole batch. Come and get em' Chris Cage ccage420@earthlink.net Why Wait? Move to EarthLink. ------------------------------ From: Malcolm Hathaway Subject: Internal DAT-Drive transfer quality, experiences? Date: Thu, 20 Nov 2003 16:14:49 -0500 Hey there, I'm thinking of replacing my current DAT-->CD setup (Sony 670 deck, optical --> Prodif 24 (ISA) soundcard) with a Sony SDT-9000 internal DAT drive. How easy/successful have the audio firmward upgrades been for this unit? Any particular difficulties to look out for? I'd have to use a SCSI card, if that matters. I'm looking to improve the quality of the transferred files, getting rid of infrequent but ongoing popping and clicking in the transferred WAV. I've done all the optimizing I can, and I still get the occasional click, which upon close examination (Samplitude) turns out to be either missing samples, or something (dramatic step changes in sample size from one sample to the next). I'm hoping that a DAT drive will be able to transfer the WAV like a data file, with some error checking, etc. Is there a program like EAC (Exact Audio Copy) that can be used for these transfers, which will "re-read" data that looks suspect? The original recordings don't have pops and clicks, just to clarify. Thanks for any help, on- or off-line. Mac ------------------------------ From: "Chris Rees" Subject: Editing advice needed. Date: Thu, 20 Nov 2003 16:51:58 -0500 Hello folks. I've got a couple of DAT masters that suffer from a pesky mic cable that I've since replaced. Ive got a one channel d/out or 2 (which last less than 1/2 a sec each), and Ive had some good luck pasting the 'good' channel over the damaged one. I was wondering if anyone new a Cool Edit 'trick' to make this paste over a bit more smooth on the ears? My current results are far from 'harsh', but I bet theres something more that i can do to help salvage the master. I recently taped several shows with a Panasonic SV-3800 deck on 90 meter = tapes. I initially listened to these tapes on my Sony D8 machine and they= played without a problem. However, in the course of transferring these t= apes to my hard drive, the D8 started having intermittent problems readin= g the tapes. The tapes would sometimes load with no absolute times and pl= ay nothing, trying to fast forward through the tape would indicate BLANK,= and one tape jammed when removed. I tried one of these tapes on my older= Sony D7 machine and got the same result. But when I put these tapes in m= y Sony DTC-790 machine they loaded fine and played correctly, so I would = cue up to the spot I wanted, and the tape then played fine on my D8 again= . However, I did not have this problem with some older 60 meter tapes. I = assumed the problem was just minor compatibility difficulties with those = 90 meter tapes recorded on the Panasonic machine. After succesfully playing one of the 90 meter tapes last night, I immedia= tely had the same problem with a different 90 meter tape that was OK befo= re. But when I tried this tape on the DTC-790 it would not play. And now = I can't get ANY tapes (60 or 90 meter) to play on ANY of my decks. Even k= nown-good tapes I recorded years ago will not play. All of the decks come= up with no absolute time, no start IDs and the frequency rate just flash= es. I'm afraid to try playing any of my tapes now. Is it possible that all of my decks crapped out simultaneously? Can a pro= blem with one machine transfer over to another via a bad tape? Is there a= nything I can do to get my machines working again? All of these decks had= been playing and recording fine up until this week. Thanks in advance for any help. -Jason ------------------------------ From: Eric Eckberg Subject: HELP!
