They did not allow taping in Denver nor did they allow it in Boston last
week (heard this from a friend who personally got turned away)
Word is some taper apparently pissed them off and now we're all banned.
Remember taping is a privilege not a right...

Sorry Heads.....Don't shoot the messenger....
I learned about Fuji getting rid of TY's a couple of months back, and
emailed them about my displeasure - and to find out WHY they were dropping
the Japan made disks. There LAME response was their optical disks are
always tested and approved for durability and longevity, so the Tywainese
disks are here to stay.......
So....it looks like Fuji has turned their back on us.

I tried to tape them at Quixotes a few weeks back and
they weren't allowing it. He first said that it was
because they had new material that they didn't want on
the Internet. He added that his soundguy had some bad
experiences with tapers and put the k'bosh on it.
His show wasn't that great anyway. Garage O'Trois was
much better (but booted us back to the section after
making a OTS tape of Sex Mob).

Sorry I can't answer your questions about the internal DAT deck, but
I had similar problems. What I discovered was that there were errors on my
tape. I could play the cd and it would sound fine. I could clone
to another dat deck and that would sound fine. The transfer to computer
would have dropouts or clicks or whatever. It turned out that my source tape
had some errors on them. The errors were minor enough that the deck could
fix them on playback. What is interesting and mystifying to me is that the
errors would somehow be repaired when cloning to a second deck, but not when
digitally copying to the computer.

I'm guessing that one of your decks had really dirty heads and playing
the same tape between all the decks moved the dirt around, or perhaps
that first 90m tape is/was shedding and dirtied up all the decks.
Try wet cleaning one of the decks and see if that helps; if it does
clean the rest of them. You can try a dry cleaning tape, but the decks
sound like they're dirty enough you should just open them up and
clean by hand.

I picked up a used Conner DDS drive on ebay, for $12 (yes, twelve), with
7 tapes and a cleaning cartridge. I have an adaptec SCSI card (for my
plexwriter) that works great.
http://www.ncf.carleton.ca/~aa571/dat2wav.htm
http://www.xs4all.nl/~heemsker/fup/
found the firmware on the web and it works fine with DAT2WAV. I
extracted one DAT just fine (48KHz, date/timestamps from a TCD-D10. And
it read at 2x). I got another DAT to extract, but there was diginoise
all over it. I don't know if it's because the drive was used, or if it
was on the tape.
I only needed it for a couple things, and for $12, it was a steal.
As for the software, DAT2WAV reports errors as they are found.
Sometimes they're audible, sometimes they are not. There is also error
correction, but I don't know if it's that useful. There are a couple
other pieces of software, but I don't think there's anything that
re-reads with the persistence of EAC. You could always just read it
twice and md5sum the files.
I undertsand the sony drives can extract at 4x, but they're quite
expensive.

Please do not reply to me about this, unless you don't like it. All the
info you need is in here for cheap TY media.
One of the Vendors who sells a substantial amout of media, Media Supply
has set up a deal for traders to get TY media, plain silver backed
discs, a spindle of 100 for $25. Before Fuji, HP, and TDK sold a few
packs of TY media with their own brand on them, I was buying this
media. Joe had sent an e-mail to me several times about how to get the
offer out to another list I am on. He set up a link that was for
members of trading lists to get the deal. So far, I have just been a
kind mouthpiece, and helped Joe get the word out, and also had
discussions with him about where to set the price to attract traders,
and am not reimbursed, or working for Media Supply. Hey Joe, how bout
sending me a spindle or 2 for helping get the deal rolling? Anyway,
this e-mail is cc'ed to Joe, and here is a link to write to him to get
the TY deal. Joe Navalance <joe.navalance@mediasupply.com> Please
e-mail Joe, not me.

Subject: Fuji Media
Date: Fri, 21 Nov 2003 13:04:05 -0800
Fuji CD-R Media is now made in Taiwan, in the same factories that make a
bunch of other trash media various CD-R Traders, burner's etc, have come
to despise. I haven't gotten any of this Media yet, and certainly won't
be buying any. It will probably pretty much end my days of CD-R
trading, as I'm not fond of using god media and getting trash in
return. I've found that if the word gets out that Maxell, Sony, TDK etc
are selling some TY media, people universally tell me their media of
that brand is TY media, then I open an envelope and get some CMC
Magnetics or other trash, after I sent out 10, 15 20 or some quantity of
TY media. I'm usually happy to get the music from, and dump the
discs. I once, about 5 or more years ago in my early days of CD-R
burning, and had a Mitsumi 4x12 junk burner, took half a spindle of
Imation media and pitched it in the trash unused becaus most of them
came out unplayable on my Sony CD Carosel. Don't ask me for them, they
are prperly burried in a landfill, and have been for years. Hopefully,
in the futue I will be upgrading that. I now burn on a couple of
Plextor SCSI burners, and have for years. Bottom line is Fuji media,
unless you get a old stoc cake box that say's "Made in Japan" in nearly
microscopic letters near the bottom of the label, is the same trash as
any other media on the market. Also, it was very simple to visually
identify the TY made media in the past. Yet most people I did trades
with didn't know how to visually identify the media, and if I explained
hw to tell the difference to a potential trading partner, I can't think
of an instance where the person I explained how to identify the TY made
media visually gave me an honest reply, and sent the media they said
they were sending.
So, I stopped doing what pissed me off, and only exchanged disc with
people I knew well. Over the last year and a half most of the CD's I
mailed I just gave to people, and many of them did the same, we didn't
count disc for disc. I also gave music to friends outside the trading
community.
Anyway, enough ranting, I posted where to get TY media at a good price
in another post a few minutes ago. Please, for the god of the tradiing
community, and to send a message to Fuji, don't buy their CD-R media.

Hi all. I had a friend who went and saw Chris Rock at The Fox Theatre in St. Louis wednesday night, and asked
if I could find him a copy. I don't really see anyone post about taping comedians and speakers of any kind, but this
is the place to ask.
Please drop me a line if you happen to have this show, or any other recent Chris Rock.
Thanks.

Subject: Question about A/D chip
Date: Sat, 22 Nov 2003 05:12:51 -0800 (PST)
Hello,
It appears like I am looking for the holy grail:
A low-power single chip solution for CD-quality A/D
that transmits S/PDIF.
The chips I found so far are either unavailable in low
quantities (just need a few), power hungry or provide
just a part of the solution (Good A/D, e.g. Philips
UDA1361 or low-power I2S to S/PDIF: Cirrus CS8406-2,
unavailable).
Who can help me find a usable solution with a sound
quality that is at least at the level of a Sony M-1?
An integrated solution (clock, preamp/atennuation)
would help but is not necessary.
Please post here or email me if you're interested or
have a solution, a hint or a tip.
Kind regards,
Udo
