He would probably do the same for GAT if he could. All I can say, this is a 2 way street, and the days of FZ and Jon Smothers are long gone. Yes, taping is a privilege, and so is not promoting a band. Subject: taped: rufus wainwright 11/21/03 Date: Sat, 22 Nov 2003 18:53:57 +0000 hi, got a very nice recording of rufus wainwright from philly 11/21/03, dpa4061>d8. i missed the very first seconds of the first song but otherwise everything seems great with it. i will have this over onto cdr in a week or two but am looking for fellow tapers of this current rufus tour, especially the DC show from 11/20. i am also looking for related acts: ben folds (especially the GWU show from november 1st), jon brion, elliott smith, sondre lerche, and of course more rufus. also interested in britpop, shoegaze, "postrock instrumental (gybe, mogwai," and bands of this sort. your list gets mine. slowdivingblue@hotmail.com _________________________________________________________________ Need a shot of Hank Williams or Patsy Cline? It took a friend of mine, who was friends with the trumpet player to talk with them to allow it. They were ready to deny it outright She (my friend) vouched for me and my ethics and talked them into allowing it I usually grab the soundboard as well as stage mics and did this for the opener The board was denied however and I got stage mics only. (they seemed to be in fear of it "being on the internet" whatever that means - easier distribution of the music? - the lost sales argument?) I had drinks with them before (last game of the world series was on during the opener) we were all hanging out watching the game and nothing was said for or against recording them They were friendly (but pissed about the outcome of the last game) I haven't spread this around at all...nobody has actually asked for it (except that friend)! and I have kept it on the lowdown (no offers or uploads) out of respect for them, etc. (please don't email me asking for it - I will send them a copy and ask if I can spread it around when the tour is over) Of course recording is a privledge, but Skerik should be consistent with his policy instead of us having to approach him each time depending on a mood of a soundman or whatever Larry Narachi ------------------------------ From: Keith Bode Subject: Re:Question about A/D chip Date: Sat, 22 Nov 2003 12:06:35 -0800 In the past it has been drilled into me by various taper's, web sites, etc, the A>D or D>A conversion process is very susceptible to EMI, RMI, RFI, whatever. To properly perform the A>D process, it should be done in a seperate device, in it's own case. Tthere are reasonable priced units, that do a great job. I use a ART DI/O. It is wall wart powered, and does any bit/sample rate from 16/44.1 to 24/96 A>D, D>A. It's very handy for doing transfers for CD from an analog source. I use it to run Cassette>WAV via a Delta Dio 2496. I am also transferring a number of LP's to DAT. I use it instead of the internal A>D converter in the DAT. I've also used it to record WAV's out of my computer to a Reel to Reel. I guess I've been around long enough to have experienced, and believe nothing sounds as good as a Reel to Reel. Friends don't let friends use internal A>D processors. Keith ------------------------------ From: Brian Dowling Subject: 24bit audio splitting for archiving to FLAC Date: Sat, 22 Nov 2003 15:48:44 -0500 If I wanted to archive and split 24bit audio files to FLAC format, which program would be appropriate to split the 24bit auio wav files before encoding to FLAC? With 16bit files, CD wave is beneficial because of splitting tracks on sector boundaries, does this really apply to 24bit recordings? I have Sound Forge 7.0 but found with 16bit recordings I had sector boundary issues while extracting regions.(Sound Forge did not split the tracks on sector boundaries) I do make DVD-A discs for playback of the 24bit recordings with trackpoints and MLP encoding. but wanted a way to archive the data in a loseless compression and split the waves into different tracks without the question of causing gaps in the original 24bit wav file. I also cannot get CD wave 1.91 to support 24bit playback to determine exact split location. Any help would be appreciated ------------------------------ From: "James Douglas" Subject: Re: Fuji media Date: Sat, 22 Nov 2003 17:56:06 -0500 For what it's worth, here in Des Moines the 50- and 30-pack made-in-Japan Fujis are still pretty plentiful. The local Best Buys had 'em this week for the special, Office Max or Office Depot has 'em (I can never remember which store is which), even KMart has 'em. I've laid in a supply of 200 of the Japanese Fujis. At the rate I burn, this is more than a year's supply. Thank goodness the discs say "Made in Japan" right on them so people won't think I'm pushing Tiawanese crap when I'm still trading with them in 2004. ;-) _________________________________________________________________ Share holiday photos without swamping your Inbox. Simpson" Subject: Sound Card Help Needed Date: Sun, 23 Nov 2003 06:02:35 -0800 (PST) Hello all, I just updated to WinXP and have everything tweaked except for my digital sound card. I have a Waveterminal 2496. I am recording by going into the digital input with a Tascam DA-20 and using good cables. I have the Waveterminal console setup properly also. When I record I get pops on ~1sec intervals. I think it is coming from a Win sub-routine - something like a self-check of the system, but am not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated in getting whatever this is turned off so I can get back to recording :) Thanks!! peace, Travis __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
