From: Steven Shaw <santoro@winternet.com> Subject: Simon & Garfunkel grovel... Date: Mon, 24 Nov 2003 10:14:06 -0600 (CST) Hi all, I'm trying to come up with some Christmas presents for my family and they attended Simon & Garfunkel in Minneapolis/St. Paul this past fall. Would anybody have a copy of either/both of these shows that they might be willing to trade or any shows from the current tour for that matter? Thanks and have a happy and safe Thanksgiving everyone! Steve
From: Steven Shaw <santoro@winternet.com> Subject: Sony Repair Centers??? Date: Mon, 24 Nov 2003 12:05:43 -0600 (CST) Does anybody know what happened to the Sony Repair Centers and the Sound Center stores? Have they all been closed? I live in Minneapolis, MN and there used to be three Sound Centers and a repair center within 20 miles of me and they are now apparently all gone. My D7 doesn't seem to want to load tapes anymore and need to get it repaired. As long as I'm shipping it somewhere anyway, does anyone have any other suggestions as to where to have it repaired that won't cost me an arm and a leg? Thanks, Steve
From: Diane Miller <dmiller91@mailbag.com> Subject: Fwd: DAT-heads Digest #934 Date: Mon, 24 Nov 2003 12:25:13 -0600 Elaine and her sponges? Too funny. I lost track, are we talking about DAT's here, or MD? Pray tell me, one without the discriminating ear and taping concerts no one cares about.... does it really matter? I buy both, so recommendations are fine. I find them so expensive in general that I have to wonder about the "sponge worthy" aspect of any show! Diane >dat-heads@datheads.phish.net From: "Don Landis" <dlandis1@cox.net> Subject: Japanese Fujis Date: Sun, 23 Nov 2003 13:43:52 -0600 You might want to move quickly. CompUSA has the 50 packs on sale this week and they are made in Taiwan. Fortunately, I bought 300 T-Y Fujis at Best Buy last week when they were on sale. I hope I don't turn into Elaine and the sponges. Don
From: Phil Thenstedt <phil.thenstedt@zones.com> Subject: Skerik & Taping Date: Mon, 24 Nov 2003 11:04:10 -0800 I've taped numerous by several of Skerik's various bands. I always ask permission before taping. Skerik's responses never seem to be consistent, sometimes he allows and sometimes he dis-allows. One day he mentioned "the rules" The rules have always been that, when allowed, the taper is to send a copy to the band. Very few copies ever seem to come his way. Since that discussion, I've made it a point to try to get copies to all the band members (when possible). I think if more people adhered to the policy he'd be a bit more open to allowing taping.
From: Keith Bode <t.tunakebo@verizon.net> Subject: Re: Japanese Fuji's (actually Taiwanese) Date: Mon, 24 Nov 2003 11:11:02 -0800 Don and group, I found the post a little confusing, at best. With a subject of "Japanese Fuji's", I never saw a word about Japanese Fuji's in the text. Did I miss something? Did you actually buy Japanese Fuji's, then overlook it? Sending people to buy Taiwanese Fuji's is pretty much like sending peple to buy, Maxell, Imation, CMC Magnetics, Princo or anyne's most disliked media. It kind of reminds me of "The Emporor's New Clothes". I was at a Cumputer Fair breifly yesterday, and several vendors were selling Silver and Green, Silver and Blue media, etc. That's where Fuji has taken their media to. I gave up buying "SHIT IN A BOX" a long time ago. Keith >You might want to move quickly. CompUSA has the 50 packs on sale this week >and they are made in Taiwan. From: "MattB" <matt@mattb.net> Subject: RE: mini disk ?'s - Need a new recording option Date: Mon, 24 Nov 2003 14:15:19 -0700 The NJB3 is one option, although it does not have a mic input either. I use the NJB3, but I don't tape as much as I once did. It's OK for my limited use. As far as MD recorders go, you might do well to get a used Sharp (on eBay) if you don't want to spend much. There are Sony decks with mic inputs still being made, but for recorders they are overpriced and most people end up bypassing the crappy mic input anyway. Sharp no longer distributes MD decks to USA, so if you want a new Sharp you have to get an import from somewhere like minidisco.com. This one looks pretty nice for recording (it has MDLP if you need longer record times too): http://www.minidisco.com/md-mt200i.html You might be able to get it, use it to do your transfers, and sell it on eBay when something better comes along without taking too much of a hit. DAT decks are also hard to get these days. Here or eBay is where I'd look. If I were you I'd hold out for something like the PDAudio or NJB3 successor if I could and spend as little as possible in the short term. Good luck! From: "teasinthatbooboo" <teasinthatbooboo@hotmail.com> Subject: Does Soundforge 5 metanormalize? Date: Mon, 24 Nov 2003 16:44:43 -0500 I have a friend running Wavelab, which I don't have. It has a feature which allows one to take a series of tracks, and normalize all of them using the peak level on the loudest point of the loudest single one of the tracks. I have Soundforge 5.0, and I want to do the same thing. The SF help file is no use. Can SF5 do this? I'd think it would... If so, how? Any and all responses appreciated. SWG
