I started buying TY and Mitsui, then TY only. I stopped having problems. I really don't want to waste my time, other people's time who I send shows to or my money seeing if what used to suck doesn't suck anymore. I don't have a problem. I'm not going to fix it. I am very happy continuing to buy the same manufacturers media, that earned my business. Keith >i too posted earlier in this thread expressing concern about no longer having the japan blanks, but to tell you the truth, i haven't had a problem with any blanks in the last 2 or even 3 years, there was a time when the make of the blank was critical and i commonly got burn errors,, except for those rare dark blanks, i just never have problems anymore, my big concern has always been someone complaining if i send non-japan blanks, is it possible the distinction is dated now?, just wondering, have those worrying actually bothered to try the taiwan blanks lately, perhaps i've just been lucky >steve s > > > > >____________________________________________________________ > ------------------------------ From: -bob Subject: Rode NT-4 ---Opinions Please Date: Wed, 26 Nov 2003 15:07:45 -0800 (PST) It seems so neat and compact and convienient. We got very lucky and have a very nice tape from the sixth row, just left of center stage. This was captured with DPA4060's>HEB battery box>D100. Crispy clear w/ nice levels. I am looking(only) for any other tapers that have quality recordings from the recent tour. Please let me know if you wanna set something up. Got them low down and dirty bluezz, JDB ===== http://hometown.aol.com/jdbrinkley/myhomepage/collection.html __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? This is definately the way i'm going myself. After talking with Gidluck and Pocco Software, they're trying to work out a way to include flac format into the software and possible getting the stream to compress in real-time. That, in itself, is worth the PDA concept and not to mention all the other software and cool stuff you can use on a PDA. GPS, games, network, wireless, etc.... What are the possibilities of streaming the audio wirelessly? You could have your rig setup and allow other people in the venue to capture it. I don't think any of the dedicated HD\CF recorders can even come close to this. Date: 27 Nov 2003 02:28:03 -0000 Regarding Fishbone story. I had a similar experience that taught me not to give the master to anyone. Ghost 24 was playing a set and I had a burner at the board. I offered to tape with no disclaimers. After the show they surrounded me and demanded the disc. Assured that I'd get a copy, I reluctantly agreed. They decide they didn't like the quality of the recording (which makes no sense as it was a great pure soundboard that I listened to before giving away), and thus wouldn't be sending to me. I insisted that they keep their end of the agreement and they had the nerve to chastise me about the legality of possessing someone elses music (great band promotion; no wonder they broke up). Never again. Never. Regarding CDRs. I have a Philips 870. I haven't been able to finalize a disc in weeks. I have a feeling it is a variety of reasons contributing to the failures in burning and finalizing. Taiwan discs, dusty lens, 79 minutes and 57 seconds of burnable time leaving no space for finalizing. As it was getting worse (quite suddenly recently) the quality of the disc seemed to be the deciding factor. Anyone else got bad taping experiences to share? I think it would help us all learn; I'll share my other two or three later. Anyone else use a Philips 870? Having any troubles? Thanks, y'all. Peace. -- ------------------------------ From: "R Sheepherder" Subject: RE: 24bit audio splitting for archiving to FLAC Date: Wed, 26 Nov 2003 20:47:43 -0800 >I have Sound Forge 7.0 but found with 16bit recordings I had sector >boundary issues while extracting regions. (Sound Forge did not split the tracks on sector boundaries) I contacted Sound Forge Cust Service regarding this issue, and they advised me to simply place all split points (which later become track markers when extracting regions and import the files into CD Architect) exactly where the wave form crosses the zero point. I have found that doing so has completely eliminated any pops in continuous audio programs. And, the wave form crosses the zero point so often that it's easy to find a split point where desired. While I have used TDK media back when it was made in Japan, and am currently using Fuji media made in Japan, I also currently use Taiwanese made TDK and Maxell CD-R's and have noticed absolutely no problems whatsoever with them. I did rush down to Best Buy and discovered that most, but not all, of the Japanese Fuji's were sold out and had been replaced by Taiwanese ones. I stocked up on more Japanese discs, but noticed that the label claims Fuji makes ("Unique dye recording layer that offers optimum archival life. Reflective layer ensure superior read-back for the ultimate in lifetime performance.") is exactly the same on both the Japanese and Taiwanese versions. Are there any published reliability test results of current media available? What do the Taiwanese manufactures do (or not do) that could make their product less desirable? Is this a long term reliability issue, or an error rate issue? Personally, the long term reliability issue would be the one that would be of great concern me, as CD players do a great job of correcting most errors. Considering how inexpensive CD-R's are these days, I can see where price point, rather than long term quality and reliability, may be the overriding factor for many manufacturers, but there is no technical reason why a disc made in Taiwan couldn't be made as well as one made in Japan. I'm wondering if the blanket statement that any and all discs made in Taiwan are of lesser quality is still valid. Finally, is it just discs made in Taiwan that are of concern? In the past I have also used a few Maxells made in Mexico (haven't seen any of those in years) and High Space's made in France. However, I notice that the Japanese made Fuji Discs, as well as some Sony discs state "Use an oil based pen." What's the latest on this? As Sharpie's now OK for writing on CD surfaces? Comments? First, they don't occur on both channels at the same time. More important, you'll still fill out the remainder of a sector with 0's. Since the signal is already low, you won't hear a "pop", but you're still distorting the music. (It's probably not noticeable to most people.) But, the 10-pack /w Jewel case of Fuji "Glow in the Dark" CDs that were free yesterday after rebate are made in Japan. Best Buy still has plenty of 30-pack audio grade which are made in Japan, but the price is not particularly good. --Gary ------------------------------ From: "Gary Davis" Subject: Farm Aid 2003 on PBS Reply-to: g@hoxnet.com Date: Thu, 27 Nov 2003 04:43:14 -0800 Thurs - Sat, a 2hour special. --G ------------------------------ From: pwking Subject: 50 CD spindle available for b&p Reply-To: sleepypedro@yahoo.com Date: Thu, 27 Nov 2003 06:44:16 -0800 (PST) hi -- i've got a stack of 50 CDrs that i'd like to find a home for. many of them are in .shn or .flac format, some are audio, but all of them are high quality that anyone would do well to add to their collection. many of them are my masters (mbho 603a/ka200n > mp2 > sbm1 > d8) made this year around the DC area, and many of them are things i've acquired in trades. it's probably ~100 hours of recorded music! i'm purging myself of the audio disks because i've converted them to .shn for my permanent archive, and i'm purging myself of the .shn disks because i've re-encoded them, in most cases because they were encoded without seektables the first time around which is a major pet peeve of mine. SO... they're yours, if you want them. the catch? i'm not listing the contents of the entire stack. (See below for a random sampling of the contents.) it'd take me a good 90 minutes or more to properly note what's in the batch, and i don't have that kind of free time. So let's just call it a Mystery Grab Bag! it's a pretty interesting mix of jazz, rock, alt-rock, and the like. it's all good stuff! all i want is someone to send me a new spindle of name brand CDrs (Taiyo Yudens preferred, but anything fuji/memorex/TDK is fine by me) + return postage and the Mystery Grab Bag is yours! i'm also interested in sealing this deal ASAP, so we've got to get this underway within a few days. all you've really got to do is order a spindle from bestbuy, staples, wherever, ship it to me, then paypal me money to ship the Grab Bag back to you, so there's no reason why someone interested in this can't make it happen quickly. ready, set, go, the first recipient who promises to get his end of the deal underway quickly wins. here are a few things contained in the spindle to give you some idea of what to expect: Tom Petty 11-4-93 FM (2 disks audio) Public Enemy 4-9-92 DSBD shn Aaron Neville 3-25-03 mbho shn Wilco 11-28-01 DSBD shn P-Funk All Stars 9-15-96 DSBD audio happy thanksgiving, peter ===== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you play a wrong note, play it again twice as loud and everyone will think you did it on purpose the first time. -Thelonious Monk ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
