If you are out there, I would love to get the missing info from you if possible. Thanks, Paul

Is there some shareware that can be used to confirm the media mfr? yes there are programs that do that, but unfortunately you cannot rely on what they report for 100% they read what is called the "atip" & report on the manufacturer data in there more info: http://www.cdrfaq.org/faq02.html#S2-38 http://www.cdrfaq.org/faq02.html#S2-33 you should be able to spot T-Ys a couple ways just by looking at them though....at least this is what i have observed, but it could all change at any time in the future: - look at the media side, it should look bluish-green if it is a t-y (because of their dye type, cyanine - if it look like this it MIGHT be a t-y, but if it doesn't then it i NOT a t-y) - look at the inner ring of the disc; all t-y's that i've seen have a "frosty" looking inner ring instead of being clear like many other "brands", and they also have a 13 digit alphanumeric serial number lightly written in there (this is usually written straight across rather than in a semi-circle, but i've recently seen some with the # written in a semi-circle that still looked like t-y's) also, there are numerous CD-R related websites on the 'net that go into more detail about identifying blanks, who makes what, what the different lines of discs by each manufacture are, dye types etc etc etc....for learning more about this kind of stuff try poking around these links.... http://www.mrichter.com/cdr/primer/primer.htm http://www.mrichter.com/cdr/primer/blanks.htm http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_dye.shtml http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_factories.shtml http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=33 http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=23 some of the above info may be outdated in some details but the concepts are useful, & of course anything that you read on the 'net, especially in a user forum (including what i am writing here) needs to be taken with a big grain of salt hope this helps, - jon -
