error, so i assumed it wasn't posting properly.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the quick and insightful responses
to my newbie recording ignorance. I will now use the 20 dB attenuator
cable in loud situations to make sure the preamp doesn't overload. One
more question, this one is about bass filter use. I know binaural
microphones have a very good frequency range, especially on the low end.
Is there a good way to determine when thee is too much bass and the
filter should be used? I know it is there to avoid the "boom" and the
bass overwhelming the recording. If anyone had some samples of a
recording with and without bass filter, I would find it very useful.
Thanks again.

Hey people,
My friend went to Pac Bell Park ni SF for the Rolling Stones concert last
year. Would someone b/p this for me - I'll gladly b/p it on this list. I have
the Stones Tower Schoeps show which I'm b/ping for someone (once I find my
discs), which I could offer in trade, but I'd b/p it anyway once I find the discs.
I knkow most Stones shows from the recent tour are being shared and not
necessarily traded, which is a good thing. Anyway my friend who went is a taper,
he just didn't tape this show because he went with his girlfriend.
cheers

Hi people,
My friend (a fellow M1/DSM/Shure taper) and I both taped a show but I got the
intro music and he wants to splice it with his recording. He said that if he
had Soundforge, he could do it, but he can't find it. Are there any free
shareware or warez versions of Soundforge or any other music editing program, for
a PC, that he can use to splice my intro music with his concert recording?
I am clueless on doing this stuff, but I told him I'd ask on DATheads (he's a
member here but he never posts). I use itunes/toast on my imac, so can't do
any editing on my computer.
Any info is appreciated. Plus if we can get this going, then we'll
eventually get around to b/ping it on datheads even if only one person responds.
x
Mike

why would you tape a loud show from 2 feet away from the stacks?
spl is killing you. attenuators won't do anything about that

Subject: ISO: SBD patch cables & attenuators
Date: Sun, 14 Dec 2003 12:16:12 -0500
I have all the required patch cables for SBD feeds except ones that
would interface with a 1/4th jack. I believe I need the following:
1/4th (left and right) males > XLR (left and right) females
As well, I have taped a couple concerts recently (Ataris, Our Lady
Peace, etc) that were VERY loud and I taped them from about 2 feet
from the stack! Both tapes were ruined and I believe attenuators
could have resolved this, if not fully, atleast partially. Therefore,
I believe I also need the following:
Attenuators (probably like -10db) XLR female at one end and XLR male
at the other, about 1 foot long, if that's even possible?
If I should be doing something different, please let me know. Thanks,

This is a plug-n-play unit, very easy to use.
It burns CDr's at 16x and DVD's at 4x.

I will take no less than $225 for it.
It is very new and in excellent condition.

Subject: possible DAT replacement?
Date: Mon, 15 Dec 2003 08:03:24 -0500
does anyone know if this is a possible DAT replacement, some news
letter from sound pros is giving it that claim:
http://www.iriveramerica.com/products/iHP-120.asp
The new iRiver IHP-120 has arrived and it is the first consumer (in
other words, affordable) stereo recorder that combines (almost) all of
the features the live recording community has been waiting for: a
large recording capacity (20 gig hard drive); ability to record
compressed or uncompressed audio files; a small package (60mm X 19mm X
105mm); long life built-in rechargeable battery; digital input AND
output (yes, you read that right!); fast USB 2.0 transfers to and from
a computer (not gonna happen with a MD or DAT) and, believe it or not,
a stereo microphone input with plug in power and a built-in microphone
preamp! That's right, no need for a separate preamp for recording with
a microphone! We have been waiting for this product to come along for
a long time and this is the first one of it's kind (none of the other
recorders of this type have a true mic input with plug in power). The
only downside (for now...we've been told this may change with a near-
future firmware upgrade) is that there are no recording level meters
and you can't change recording levels while recording (this is why we
say it may "eventually" replace MD and DAT:-). For now, we are working
on a module to attach to the recorder that will give you recording
level meters and the ability to adjust recording levels....stay tuned!
Correct me if i'm wrong, but if we ran a DAT side by side w/ this
thing and used optical in, which it offers, then we could use the DAT
levels to make the recording? And, since the signal is digital out of
my UA-5 going Coax or Optical, they would be the same and thus this
thing could make a flawless .wav digital recording?
Sorry if we discussed this already, but I don't remember any
conclusion.
Thanks,
