Can we please keep this group free of software pirating please. Stealing
is stealing no matter how you justify it and I would rather see this
group free from that crap.

I have decided to sell my V3. I'm looking to get $1200
shipped. It is 6v, with right-angle power cable. I am
going to run my AD1k to the bitter end (its worth more
to me than I could get for it anyway...) I would
consider trading for a Sansosax + cash.
I am also selling my Tascam DA-P1 around 100hrs tops I
bought it with 10. It comes with 6v power cable, but
no battery, wall wart also included. $800 shipped
Thanks,
Eric

think the show is sold out. Anyone taping please drop me a line -

The newsletter pointed out also that there are no meters on the unit, and
until they build an outboard device (being Sound Prof's) it is not that
useful.
Other discussions have noted that there is a very low file size limit (this
was concerning the iHP-100 model) - which also could be applicable to the
120 model. This is a firmware problem, and there is no intention by iRiver
to upgrade it.

Subject: possible DAT replacement?

does anyone know if this is a possible DAT replacement, some news
letter from sound pros is giving it that claim:
http://www.iriveramerica.com/products/iHP-120.asp
The new iRiver IHP-120 has arrived and it is the first consumer (in
other words, affordable) stereo recorder that combines (almost) all of
the features the live recording community has been waiting for: a
large recording capacity (20 gig hard drive); ability to record
compressed or uncompressed audio files; a small package (60mm X 19mm X
105mm); long life built-in rechargeable battery; digital input AND
output (yes, you read that right!); fast USB 2.0 transfers to and from
a computer (not gonna happen with a MD or DAT) and, believe it or not,
a stereo microphone input with plug in power and a built-in microphone
preamp! That's right, no need for a separate preamp for recording with
a microphone! We have been waiting for this product to come along for
a long time and this is the first one of it's kind (none of the other
recorders of this type have a true mic input with plug in power). The
only downside (for now...we've been told this may change with a near-
future firmware upgrade) is that there are no recording level meters
and you can't change recording levels while recording (this is why we
say it may "eventually" replace MD and DAT:-). For now, we are working
on a module to attach to the recorder that will give you recording
level meters and the ability to adjust recording levels....stay tuned!
Correct me if i'm wrong, but if we ran a DAT side by side w/ this
thing and used optical in, which it offers, then we could use the DAT
levels to make the recording? And, since the signal is digital out of
my UA-5 going Coax or Optical, they would be the same and thus this
thing could make a flawless .wav digital recording?
Sorry if we discussed this already, but I don't remember any
conclusion.

I taped this show at First Ave here in town on Friday night, and didn't get a chance to
attend Saturday's show. Did anybody catch it on tape? This reunion show was just
STELLAR for me and my friends, and I'm quite interested in finding a tape of Saturday
if you were there. My master is a good DAUD on Sanken COS-II mics placed binaurally.
181 minutes! FLAC onto one disc. Looking for related.

Where on the net could I currently get the best deal

I know that since say 2000 the prices have gone up and
availability has decreased but what are the places to

Hey folks,
Rather than list this on Ebay, I am posting here about the Sony D100 portable deck I have for sale. It's in good condition, records and plays fine, but has seen some use and is by no means in new condition. Still, it's worked well for me but I have not taped a show in over a year and rarely find the need to use this Dat deck. So I'm selling it for the best offer, please feel free to email me if you're interested. Also, I have a Sony RKDA10-P unmodified passive coax > 7-pin cable available.
I can give you more specifics about the deck if you want to email me with questions. Also, if you're in Chicago or the South Florida area then we could make an in-person transaction.
Thanks,
Mike

this can all be done VERY easily with a "cuesheet" file and any burning
program that works with cuesheets (EG: CDRWIN, or EAC; i think NERO or
FEURIO may as well but i am unsure)
with a cuesheet you can indicate where you want each trackmark to go, down
to 1/74th of a second
you can also do many more "advanced" things like adding CD-TEXT, specifying
"pre & post gaps//subcode indices", all kinds of stuff
although a cuesheet is only a text file, & you only need a text editor to
write one (like windoze notepad), you can also get cuesheet writing software
like CDRCUE that makes it a breeze to do & lets you listen to each track
mark & adjust them on the fly etc
more info:
CDRCUE - http://www.dcsoft.com/prod03.htm ($15)
http://www.dcsoft.com/cue_mastering_progs.htm
EAC - http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ (free)
CDRWIN - http://www.goldenhawk.com/ ($39)
contact me off-list for more details & examples of how to use cuesheets if
you need more help,

Geez, I never even heard of this device until today! I don't care what anyo=
ne says, but this thing looks like it blows things like Noman Jukeboxes off=
the earth. For 370 bucks I'm going to pick one up just to play with it...
Seems like it has gotten no bad reviews, except from iPod users.. ha
Some pros I observed:
-Looks like it has a carrying case with a window similar to that of a Sony =
DAT
-Using the line-in and an SP module with my mics, I think this thing will w=
ork fine just like a minidisc recorder does with it's (likely identical) an=
alog/optical line-in jack, eliminating the need of a preamp in some cases.
-Also, the battery life during record is theoretically identical to that of=
=3D
an M1/D100 on 2 Energizer e^2 lithiums.
-It has a playback EQ function that can do EQing on the fly that could save=
=3D
one from using an audio editor on their PC.
I downloaded the manual from iRiver's website, and the only downfalls I not=
iced for live recording were:
-stops recording after an uncompressed WAV file exceeds 795MB - so.. In bet=
ween songs or during an encore (around the 90-minute mark) one would have t=
o put the recorder in standby mode real fast and start recording to a new f=
ile. this would still be faster than any tape or MD exchange.=3D20
-recording stops when "iHP's memory is full" - anyone know exactly what tha=
t means? I'm hoping it's just when the 20GB is exceeded
My two cents...

I've been holding out for the Sound Devices 722, but this one almost has me.
I just wish it recorded 24 KHz. The lack of levels isn't an issue for me
because I monitor my levels on my V3.
