She's an old friend of mine and I was wondering if anyone has ever taped
her. She lives and plays around the LA area these days. If you ever get a
chance, check her out. Very talented IMO.
Not sure if she'd allow it or not.

I thought that parts of it were mis-aligned to specified degrees in
specified directions, to make it possible to determine just what the
head alignment is (compared with what it should be). (Either that, or
there was something else weird about the tape, maybe lacking some of
the track-following stuff; the idea is to check the raw head
alignment, so preventing auto-adjustment helps.)
In any case, it's not a tape you could duplicate even with a perfectly
aligned drive.

I think it would be more analogous to someone sneaking into my house
when I'm not here and copying all my CD's, DAT's and software, than
stealing my stereo.
If I snag a piece of rip-off-ware, the person I copy it from still has
it. Bob Dylan can complain all he wants about me making a copy of LOVE
AND THEFT off someone, but if I was not gonna buy it anyway, it's hard
for me to believe that it actually COST him anything, since he still
has everything he did.
I appreciate your attempting to shed light on the subject, and I fully
appreciate the moral high ground upon which you wish to stand. I don't
think in this case that you have made a compelling analogy, but I
welcome further attempts to add perspective to this (important)
discussion.
Let's talk!
-tom
PS-- If someone broke into my house, reverse-engineered the custom
stereo I built by hand, and then started making and selling that
identical unit, or even giving them away on the streets, I could see
your point more clearly, but that's not what you said.
PPS- I do not have such a stereo. It was merely an example.

So if somebody breaks into your house and steals your stereo, but then
gives it away for free rather than selling it, I shouldn't have any
objection to that, either, right?
There _is_ freeware, crippleware, begware, etc. audio editing software
out there, and pointers to those would be perfectly appropriate.

i've been using and loving my m200 setup, still have a lingering question, info on these mics includes this:
"A reduction of the sensitivity factor for low frequencies can be utilized to suppress the proximity effect"
when would i utilize this in club taping, the -10db switch is obvious, but i'm still a bit foggy on that second switch, i tape almost exclusively in small club situations, often the bands are very loud, but sometimes extremely quiet, i've tested approaches, but it's always a different show and different night so kind of hard to make the clean comparison,
also if someone has opinions on mic positioning/mounting (mostly those of you using the gefell cards), i'd love to hear your experiences, like i said, i've done my own test, but would always like a second opinion from others running these mics,,
thanks list

I don't really know anything about the tapes so I suppose this could be
true. I think it may be that putting the deck into "test mode 42" is
what prevents the "auto-adjustment" stuff though. I guess I need to get
one of these tapes and play with it; however, I don't have a "junk" M1
to play with. I've got an old D7, but I don't have a D7 service manual
and I don't know if it uses the same tape for alignment.

Last night I enjoyed the fantastic concert by Carlos Nunez & his
friends in Tokyo and came back home with an excellent tape.
Are there any Celtic Music out there?
The show last night was the only one acoustic concert of their
tour in Japan where they did not use any PA. And what made this
show special was they played a couple of tunes with a Japanese
organist.
I am looking for some kind persons who might trade the Chieftains'
show for this Carlos show.
