I am helping out a buddy sell his DAT machines and assorted DAT tapes (GD, JGB, ABB, etc). We have compiled the attached web site which outlines the items for sale. Preferably these will go to the person who wants them all, however my buddy is willing to split the machines and the tapes, but that is it. His contact information is provided, please e-mail him directly if interested http://dansisler.tripod.com/WAZsale.html - Dan Sisler _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web! ------------------------------ From: Brian Skalinder Subject: ISO Sonosax SX-M2/LS (LemoSax) + lemo cables for Schoeps MKx caps Date: Tue, 30 Dec 2003 08:38:48 -0800 (PST) Looking to add a stealthier setup to my current gear and trying to get my hands on: 1 | Sonosax SX-M2/LS (LemoSax) This is the Sax that allows the mic caps to be run directly into the Sax via a set of colette / lemo cables without the need for the mic bodies. Still trying to determine with the Sax folks if this option is even available new from Sax anymore, but would prefer a used unit. 1 | Pair of cables to run MKx caps into the LemoSax. If anyone knows where to acquire these cables new or used, I'd appreciate the input as I've had zero success tracking these down. If anyone can help me out here, drop me a line directly: bskalinder[at]yahoo.com. Thanks! __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Find out what made the Top Yahoo! Date: Tue, 30 Dec 2003 10:40:05 -0600 Howdy, Go ahead and call me a dumb-ass, cos I just might be. Anyway, I was given a big box of 120 meter DDS2 tapes by a friend, and I've been using them to master stuff, and have been having good results. That is until I recorded Fitz of Depression and The Briefs the other day in Seattle. My advise to users of these super thin and long tapes is to just master the show and get it to your hard drive fast. I was searching for a start ID (stupid idea) and it broke (of course) and both ends of the tape are showing. What I'm asking for is--does somebody on the list have a roll of that splicing tape that I used to use with Ampex 1/4" tape a couple decades ago? It's mylar, I think, and thinner and smoother than Scotch tape. I might be able to get one pass out of this master with a careful splice of the ends together. Email me and I'll send my address and if you could, drop me a short length of that tape in an envelope--hell, even attached to a postcard! BTW, The Briefs were great at the Crocodile, and the Sanken>D100 master sounded great, if you go in for the faux-Cockney punk material. I seem to remember this word when looking through the Absolute Sound and an old Linn-Sondek turntable brochure. I'm interested in hearing what DAT portables are considered not musical. (There's that sign on the wall, can't remember the exact >words but something like "One day, we can dream, there will be a cure >for incessant taping.") But when bands give the OK, he's always let >me patch, and been pretty pleasant most of the time. Same with their >other sound people. That older Asian guy is the monitor sound man - who is actually pretty cool - but a little silent.. and the FOH man that hung that sign is named Lee.- he wears glasses and isn't Asian. He is the one who is, at times, anti-taper. However, if you are lucky enough to have the band vouch for you - you get a wristband AND you come in during load in - then he's cool...He has a problem with regular patrons coming in at doors (when he's on his break) and asking him to do stuff for them. (seems reasonable) - the staff want all the tapers to go upstairs, which is OK as long as you get the balcony rail next to the light board. But you still get to listen to beer bottles thrown in the trash and cash register sounds from that bar upstairs. The staff worries about tape gear at the front of the stage - mostly because they don't want your equipment getting ruined and then some taper blaming THEM for the accident...so they tolerate gear to some degree but they warn you that they aren't responsible. They also don't like tapers taking forever to leave - unless you are wristbanded by the band - then they don't have to worry about you from a liability standpoint. The best situation is to have the band bring you in with them at load in and get you a wristband. Have the band talk to Lee or whoever is working FOH when they talk..We have had bands tell him "take care of our friend here, as he's taping for us"..then he grumbles and does what he's told - its his job. Lee is actually a pretty decent soundman and he appreciates it if you like the sound mix that night - tell him it sounded good and he did a nice job...He usually smiles then...after he's all done. On your own, you get shoved upstairs and if you don't have the rail - then do the show stealth in the sweet spot on the floor. I have also pulled decent tapes from the balcony side also..Some of the security staff just don't want to deal with you and are therfore hostile to tapers..but the only people to worry about are the house manager and the FOH soundman. Happy to discuss this with anyone off list..I've taped many times there - usually open taping, but have pulled a few stealth jobs there also... Its so unpredictable there, you gotta be prepared for anything. Larry Narachi aka 'taperachi' ------------------------------ From: Marv Van Haitsma Subject: ISO: Recent S&G shows.. It has spdif i/o and as far as I know doesn't resample incoming signals. I have a close friend of mine who uses it to archive his DAT tapes at 48khz to his computer and this is what he uses. I bought mine at Guitar Center for $175. It also comes with RCA I/O as well as MIDI I/O if you are interested. They have a newer model out now called the Delta Dio and it has SPDIF I/O as well as Opti I/O if that is more what you are looking for. Hope this helps. Benjamin ------------------------------ From: "MattB" Subject: AD-20 mods? Date: Wed, 31 Dec 2003 08:55:34 -0700 Hey everyone. I'm considering getting a used AD-20 as a front-end to my JB3. I've heard there are a couple of mods that can be done to this box and I'm curious about them. One is a knob mod that makes the gain knobs easier to use. I think I can picture that one and would just need to find the right replacement knobs. Anyone know what knobs are appropriate and where to get them online? Other mods are available commercially at Sound Professionals. They have a electret battery box built into the AD-20, and a miniplug input available here: http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/category.cgi?category=540&item=DEN-AD20-MINI&type=store I might like to try and do some of these (I'm running the SP version of the AT-933s) and I wonder if there's an online source of documentation on them. Specifically, I'd kind of like to just make the miniplug mod to cut down on adaptor clutter and maybe keep the BB outboard. Seems like I could just mount the miniplug where ever there's room (or even external on a pigtail-type deal), but how to I adapt from the XLR connections? Which lead goes to which? Seems like I could wire the miniplug in parallel and still have the XLRs functional if I need them in the future or for resale purposes. I hope that question makes sense - I'm just working on my first coffee this morning. Any links or tips appreciated! Matt "Gravity.
