From: Jim <spidergawd@comcast.net> Subject: Re: dvd audio only... Date: Sun, 04 Jan 2004 11:55:57 -0500 If you have a DVD-ROM in your computer a possible method could be: 1) Rip the .vob files to hdd using SmartRipper (freeware) http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/smartripper.cfm 2) Demux the (.m2v) video and (.ac3) audio files with TMPGEnc (freeware version only has 30 days of MPG-2 functionality) or use the freeware prog DVD2AVI http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd2avi.cfm to create a DVD2AVI Project file (.d2v?) and .ac3 file. (Also can directly convert audio to .wav, even downsample to 44.1, but I have no idea how good the quality is) 3) Convert .ac3 to .wav with Azid (freeware) http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/azid.html 4) Downsample using your favorite WAV editor, or a freeware prog like SSRC http://www.afterdawn.com/software/audio_software/audio_tools/ssrc.cfm I have never used these tools for this particular purpose, but I have used them for video editing/conversions and they should do the job. From: <mw5150@cox.net> Subject: re: ripping audio from a DVD Reply-To: <mw5150@cox.net> Date: Sun, 4 Jan 2004 23:06:10 -0500 This program does a really nice job - rips the chapters directly to separate MP3 or WAV files....which you can burn right to CD-R http://www.imtoo.com/ DVD Audio Ripper is the name of the program.

From: "Gunther Wandtke" <gunterw@iprimus.com.au> Subject: Re: dvd audio only... (Gary Gilliland) Date: Mon, 5 Jan 2004 17:21:27 +1100 Actually, if you got a DVD-Rom with your computer, you can rip the audio tracks directly from the DVD, either extracting the VOB files to your computer, or even directly extracting Wave files from the DVDs. For many DVDs a program called ImtOO DVD Audio Ripper works great, otherwise use a program like AC3 Audio Decrypter after ripping the VOB files. If you need to know more details, write to me off list. Gunter
