From: Kevin Main <mrmain18@yahoo.com> Subject: Any tapers available in Cincinnati Jan. 16 & 17?? Date: Tue, 6 Jan 2004 08:41:31 -0800 (PST) I'm part of the group putting together Chicks Rock Fest (www.chicksrockfest) in Cincinnati on Friday, January 16, and Saturday, January 17. We have 30 bands with female members playing on 3 stages over 2 mights at two different venues: The Barrelhouse Brewing Company (www.barrelhouse.com) and The Cavern (www.thecaverncincinnati.com). There will be 5 or 6 bands per stage, each playing roughly 45 minute sets. I have been put in charge of taping the event and/or finding other tapers to help the cause. I will be taping one stage each night and need someone to cover the other two stages on Friday and/or Saturday. Anyone taping will gain free admission to both venues for both nights, early enterance to set up, as well as other benefits and items (I'm still working on discounted/free drinks). I can provide DAT tapes, minidiscs, power, etc. I just ask that the tapes be converted, either by the taper or by me, in a somewhat timely manner (meaning within several weeks) and sent to me. We want to make a live compilation cd that can be used to gain sponsors and promo for next year's CRF. All tapers will be given full credit if their recording is chosen. Please email me at kevin@chicksrockfest or at mrmain18@yahoo.com if you are interested or have any questions. Thanks, Kevin ===== mrmain18@yahoo.com AIM: AutogphHnd __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! From: Philip Dinhofer <philipdinhofer@yahoo.com> Subject: Is Neil Young Taper Friendly? Date: Tue, 6 Jan 2004 11:29:50 -0800 (PST) I posed this question on the "Rust List" where I get most of my Neil info from. Following are the question and replies I received. They all seem pretty consistent. Good Luck, Happy Taping and remember to SHARE!!! Phil ====================================================== Message: 8 Date: Tue, 6 Jan 2004 05:17:55 -0800 (PST) From: Philip Dinhofer Subject: is neil young taper friendly these days? I saw this question posed on a different website. Before I try to respond, I thought I'd toss out the question to those here who may know better. My understanding was that Neil did not permit recording, such as the Dead does. Meaning, you cannot put your mic's up on a pole, nor is there a taper section. Thus there is no overt taping permitted. (Probably something enforced by the record label and the house where he performs too.) On the other hand, I have heard/read that Neil does not care about the live recording made of his concerts. Meaning, that he does not pursue those who manage to record his shows, by whatever means. Thus while not taper "friendly" it has been my understanding that Neil is taper "indifferent". Anybody have any further info on this? Anybody have any further info on this? I don't know if we'll ever get a difinitive answer. On one hand, we have Neil quoted as saying "bootlegs are essential for an artist like me" or something to that effect in Shakey, followed by an opinion that the record companies can't put enough stuff out to truly represent the scope of his art. On the other hand, there is the "internet rant," and the thought that he wasn't going to do unreleased songs live anymore because they were being taped. I have a feeling that Neil's felings on this subject are pretty much subject to whim, but somewnhat friendly. Over the years, it seems like Neil has leaked soundboards out or done radio shows, possibly when the record companies didn't want to release live albums from whatever period he wanted to see them released. A few months ago, we all thought Neil's camp had leaked the CSNY '70 shows, but the post about the Fillmore recorder has cast doubt onto that scenario. My guess is that Neil sees us as a necessary evil. He won't attack us, he just won't back us. =====================================x Message: 3 Date: Tue, 06 Jan 2004 14:34:08 -0000 From: "thamblet11" Subject: Re: is neil taper friendly these days > Phil wrote: > Thus while not taper "friendly" it has been my > understanding that Neil is taper "indifferent". > > Anybody have any further info on this? No, I don't think Neil has become taper friendly. Every show I've been to has the same warnings - no recording equipment. The only time he ever allowed overt taping was the Horde '97 tour. On the other hand, he doesn't seem to be too aggressive about stopping taping. I think it was at Oslo last year where he even seemed resigned to it happening. ================================x Message: 5 Date: Tue, 06 Jan 2004 14:52:49 -0000 From: "rustie732002" Subject: Re: is neil taper friendly these days I've always wondered just how much control artists actually have to be taper-friendly, short of having dedicated areas set aside for tapers (is this an exclusively US thing as I've never seen it at a UK gig?). My experience has been that searches at the door tend to be on the whim of the venue or even the jobsworth on the door. Last year I saw Counting Crows - an overtly taper-friendly band - at the SECC in Glasgow yet security were searching people randomly on the door and even taking photo-messaging mobile phones from people in the auditorium. Actually, the phone thing really bugs me at shows, but that's a rant for another day! __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! From: "dave \(of sam and dave\)" <samndave@comcast.net> Subject: FS: >>> Amazing Schoeps PCM Masters of the Dead <<< Date: Tue, 6 Jan 2004 17:36:28 -0500 I'm posting this for my good friend Matt in Atlanta. Please reply to him directly at plunderosa@earthlink.net I have heard many of these tapes, and they all sounded fantastic. It's an nice collection and deserves a good home. Matt writes... I have over 200 original F-1 recordings of the Dead That we recorded between 1984-92 with mostly Schoep mikes. I was one of the original digital tapers with an Oade power supply, etc. All are on Beta tapes. I would love to pass on the Sony PCM F-1 Processor and the Beta deck to someone who would get the music out there. I would like to recoup a small amount of the massive amount of money that we spent back then to make these tapes, maybe a couple of bucks apiece for each tape and $350 for the F-1 Processor and Beta deck.... I also have for sale 2 Adcom 555 amps, 1 Adcom preamp and some killer KEF 104/2 speakers that are mint.. Hope to hear from you... Sparticle (featuring Royston Langdon of Spacehog, Rogers Stevens of Blind Melon and Rene Lopez) will be opening up the 3 NE shows. The band will consist of Tony Shanahan on bass (plays with Patti Smith), Jack Petruzzelli on keys and guitar (from the Fab Faux) and Bill Dobrow on drums. ==================================================================================== Best, Karsten -- +++ GMX - die erste Adresse für Mail, Message, More +++ Neu: Preissenkung für MMS und FreeMMS! http://www.gmx.net
