Has anyone modified the Oktava MC012 mic?
I have read that there was some people that did some mods in some
Oktavas, but doing a Google search only showed some tube version mods.
The parts inside the mic are nothing special, not even 1% resistors.
So maybe upgrading those parts onto better ones, like 0.1% resistors
or superior grade 1% parts things can improve. As some reports have
been made of MC012 mics not being quite matched for a stereo pair,
maybe improving those parts can make a difference.
Inside the mic there are only two transistors and one FET, and that
maybe another area to improve things.

Hi
Before I resort to Ebay, I wanted to give the list a chance to grab this deck. It is a like-new HHB CDR-850 CD Recorder. It comes with the orignal box, manual and remote control. I bought this deck and then moved overseas, so it has sat in the box for most of the time I've owned it. It works perfectly and I have never had a single problem with it. It looks as new. I am selling this with a Wireworld Gold Starlight (original series) AES/BEU cable. The cable cost over $200 new. Together I am asking $350 plus shipping.
Thanks.

Liz Phair is very much anti-taping and has made public appearances
denouncing so-called "music piracy." I recall seeing her on the Bill
Maher's show a few months ago doing just that.
In general when she sings live, her vocal is mixed too low. Since this
happens at every show I've heard, my guess is it's deliberate and she is
not totally confident about her singing voice in a live situation. But
then again, she did suffer from stage fright some years back.

Sony won't score much here, unless they discovered some amazing new compres=
sion scheme. 40 hours on one MD seems rediculous, the lossiness and the sou=
nd quality would have to be horrible.=20
The question is this: Why hasn't sony entered the hard drive recorder marke=
t?? If Sony could combine features of the Creative JB3, the iRiver iHP seri=
es, and the M1 into a single recorder (which would be a piece of cake for S=
ony), they could easily outsell anyone in the market.=20
Any thoughts? It's a good issue, since Sony does not have a lossless digita=
l replacement for discontinued DATs... Or are they too governed by the RIAA=
?

It's new technology, so the actual amount of data could be much more
than MD. If there's 10x as much raw data, the sound quality might not
be much worse (assuming they also got more clever about
psycho-acoustic compression).
