Urge Overkill has reformed and will be playing four dates in the next month. Please contact me if you are able to tape any of these shows, I will repay you handsomely for your efforts. For that matter, if you have _any_ UO in your collection, please get in touch. http://www.aversion.com/news/news_article.cfm?news_id=1821 After six years out of the spotlight, Urge Overkill announced a string of four dates that start later this month. Best known for its cover of Neil Diamond's "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon" from the Pulp Fiction soundtrack, Urge Overkill eventually broke up on 1997. No word has been issued if the act will play or record beyond the dates it announced. Urge Overkill's tour dates are: Jan. 15 - The Casbah, San Diego Jan. 16 - Troubadour, Hollywood Feb. 5 - Maxwell's, Hoboken, N.J. Feb. 6 - The Bowery Ballroom, New York Also, did anyone else notice this line in the NY Times article about the new minidisc compression? "Sound quality will approach that of compact discs, and Hi-MD will also download and upload files to PCs." No offense to MD users, but the words "will approach" lead me to believe that it cannot actually replicate or match the sound quality of compact discs. Thoughts? Take care, *phiL* BWT: Explosions in the Sky, 11/10/03, Ottobar, Baltimore, MD [recorded w/ Core Sound Binaurals > D8]. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Date: Sun, 11 Jan 2004 19:15:51 -0500 (EST) Who cares? Stealth tapers do. I'll never carry around something the=20 size of the current Nomad, no matter=20 what it's capable of doing.=20 I just hope someone comes out with a=20 pro HDD recorder the size of an M1 or=20 smaller before 2005, so we can cut=20 down on all the bandwidth and terabytes=20 of throughput wasted in discussion=20 forums such as this... ============================================= A 60-gig Nomad ($350) will record 44.1k/16-bit for over 80 hours, and will take other bit/sample rate inputs. I'd hate to go back to worrying about disc swapping in the middle of two-hour sets, and why would you bother? Th= e JB3 is cheaper (or as cheap), requires no external media (at $7 per), and holds essentially a whole tour at 44.1k/16-bit. It will dump a three-hour show to your computer over firewire in five minutes or less. We've not tested it completely, but have found (accidentally, at first, while patching at one show) that the optical digi-in on the JB3 will take 48k/16 and 48k/24-bit inputs without batting an eye. Has anyone else teste= d feeding a JB3 other word lengths and/or sample rates? Will the thing take 192k/24-bit input? (We can't A>D at those lofty rates) Is the 3-hour file size limitation affected by varying input type? I, for one, would love to hear some results... I'm just sayin' - SWG ------------------------------ From: "c. howell" Subject: ISO: Sony SDT-9000 DAT streamer Date: Mon, 12 Jan 2004 04:53:56 -0800 (PST) subject says it all. looking for an SCSI DAT "streamer" to hook up in my system, especially the Sony SDT-9000 unit. if anyone has such a unit in excellent working condition for sale, please email me. thanks for the space. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? He was one of the fathers of digital recording, developing many of the principles, building some of the first equipment, and his company, Soundstream, did the first commercial digital recordings. We owe him a lot. Use a little web searching to check out his life and his contributions to our hobby. Thomas Stockham passed away last week. ------------------------------ ** FOR YOUR REFERENCE ** To unsubscribe from this digest, please send email to dat-heads-unsubscribe@datheads.phish.net If your email address has changed, you may (optionally) send the message to dat-heads-unsubscribe-oldaddress=olddomain@datheads.phish.net and the old address will be removed.
