The best I've found s far is SonicSense at 1199.00 + shipping. Does anyone on the list have one for sale? -Wayne Stielau -- "If you push something hard enough it will fall over." From: "Martin Klingmeyer" <martin@hidingplace.net> Subject: Who makes What? Date: Fri, 30 Jan 2004 13:11:51 -0500 There seems to be a lot of discussion regarding who makes what. (Does TY make HP? Which type of Fuji etc.) Here is a nice little program I have used: http://cd-rw.org/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/cdridentifier.cfm Very reliable for the most part. Enjoy! -M
From: "Sherm Clow" <sclow@utah.gov> Subject: Microphone Madness Mikes Date: Fri, 30 Jan 2004 12:05:30 -0700 A year or so ago, someone posted a query on this list concerning the MM "Sennheiser driven" stealth mikes. No discussion or comments were returned, but I visited the MM web site out of curiosity. I'm not much of a stealth taper, I prefer to get my mikes right on stage with cooperative jazz and instro groups. But certain opportunities lost convinced me I should look more seriously at stealth taping with my D100. The idea of stealthing is rife with difficulties and frustrations: bad PAs, bad soundmen, security, excessive crowd noise, poor locations in the hall, stiff necks holding my head high, no talking to girl friends (who then get pissed), etc., etc. So I didn't want to invest a lot of money in microphones until I was more confident in my stealthing procedures. I also wanted cardoids, to reduce crowd interference. The MM-HLSC-1 mikes seemed technically to satisfy my requirements, and,...the price was right. $250 bucks seemed a reasonable amount of dough, I was more worried I was gonna get some cheap-assed mikes. So I took the plunge and bought 'em, along with the extra $50 battery box, which turned out to be wise decision. When the mikes arrived, I was disappointed in some minor ways, the mikes were a little big for stealthing (nearly an inch long and a bit wide in diameter). Also, the mikes weren't marked in terms of right/left channel, but that was easy to determine. Finally, the cylinders are chrome, and the grills are silver, which makes them a bit obvious in stealthing situations. Anyway, some black tape and a sharpy helped with this problem. I had the opportunity to record on successive weekends at the same venue, same FOB location, same PA, same sound guy, etc. So the first weekend I used the MM mikes, the second I used my venerable Shure VP-88, both into the Sony D100. And I was suprised! Overall, the recording with the MM mikes rivaled the Shure VP-88 (much more expensive). I was quite happy with the results; however, the MM mikes were significantly more sensitive, and, as this was an outdoor venue, wind noise was very troublesome, even with the supplied foam covers in place. So I don't think I could recommend these for outdoor concerts, but, then, I suspect many mikes have the same problem (the foam protected Shure VP-88 came through like a champ, very little wind disturbance on the recording). In one of those once in a lifetime opportunities, I got a front row center ticket to a Wynton Marsalis concert. With the MM mikes firmly attached to the sturdy headliner of a Rolly Coaster (my friend makes caps out of old wool garments), I did the stealth thing and ended up with a fabulous recording of Wynton. Of course, I was getting most of the sound off the stage, avoiding the PA. I've since used these mikes in more stealthing situations, and, while I feel stealing is still very problematic, I've found these mikes to provide excellent recordings. Very highly recommeded...and the price is right! Note: while the mikes will work directly into the mic/line input of the D100, you will usually need to drop into the Line setting of this input due to the high sound levels generated by the mikes. The Line setting cuts any power to the mikes, so you will need the $50 battery box. Microphone Madness...MM-HLSC-1...recommended.

For those out there who know who I'm talking about. Did anyone ever record any of the Sunday Night Alternative shows. They need to circulate. He used to play some obscure stuff on that show. Be nice to get some copies. Thanks Dean
