For those who need any confirmation about this band, just go see them.
They rock, and I can't say enough good things about the band itself. They
are such nice guys and don't forget to see the band when they play as
Citizen Fish either (slight lineup changes)... Take Carl up on the offer
and see these guys for free.

Recently I recieved soundboard copies of three great Bonnaroo 2003 sets....Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Allman Brothers, and Ben Harper.
Unfortunately, all three were hammered with a variety of digi pops, both loud & soft....thus making them unlistenable. It is my hope, that someone out there has clean copies of these historic performances.
If you do, I would greatly appreciate setting up a trade to get them. My list consists of over 3,700 superior quality entries.....many rare & uncirculated shows!
Thanks & I look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers,
Mitchell

Frankly, if that is the only thing you're looking to buy a DAT deck for,
you would probably do better to buy one of the DAT-capable DDS drives
that are surplus from SGI. The computer drive would be more rugged than
most DAT machines (certainly more so than any portable such as the D8),
and you would save all the fuss of having to deal with a sound card.
If you do want a DAT deck for some other reason, I would recommend a
home deck rather than a portable, because of the heavy schedule that you
are planning. It would be more likely to stand up to that amount of use.

Hi all,
I've been doing quite a bit of trading lately and have come to suspect
that some of the stuff I've gotten is MP3 based. Is there a way that I
can confirm this? It seems I've heard people talk of spectrum analyzers
before... is there something out there as shareware that could help me
out?
Thanks!

I found that Best Buy (at least in my area), for some reason keeps the Taiwan Fuji's by the audio media, accessories, etc. and the keep the Japan Fujis over by the computer media. Why, I am not sure, but I was kind of surprised. They seem to have 30 pks and 50 pks of each.
For your situation, I think Fuji (TYs) or Mitsuis will both perform well. I actually prefer the Fuji's, but I think anyones preference is mostly personal, and not based on actual factory test data.

Hello DAT-Heads, I know the "CDR quality issue" has been visited quite
regularly. I did check the Digest for applicable posts, and found some
info, but I still have a question. I have some DAT/Cassette masters that
are near and dear to my heart. I was using Mitsui for personal archiving,
but got out to my local Best Buy today and talked them into giving me #100
of the "Made In Japan" Fuji CDRs (2 x 50) for the advertised $14.99. I
managed to
avoid letting them give me the #100 spindle of Fuji's that were made in
Taiwan.( My winning argument was the ad pictured (2) #50 cake boxes...)
Seeing as I only want to do this archiving job once, am I being
foolish trying to save 50 cents a disc by going with the Fuji's? Or,
perhaps, am I ascribing too much faith in the quality of the Mitsui's?
Thanks Heads, R.J.MacReady

as well as a collaborative hour at the end. Just wondering if anyone here
is planning on taping any of these? I'll be hitting the Minneapolis

taper-friendly as long as the venue is cool with it. Here are the dates in

Absolutely. IMNSHO Mitsui has a reputation that is not deserved. The silver
topping found on unbranded Mitsui's flakes off rendering the discs useless.
I've had it happen a half dozen times. I have yet to have a problem with a
TY-Fuji, after thousands burned.
FWIW - The branded Mitsui's have some sort of coating on the top which
seems to prevent the flaking as I've experienced no problems with them.
(but they cost more than I can spend on blanks.)
YMMV,
Marc

Hey now..
i'm posting for Carl Beck, whos email addie changed and is having
trouble posting here..
He is not really happy with his 4022s and the way they match up with his
stereo system.
So...he's on the hunt.
Trouble is, he has used/own all there is out there!
He is looking for a trade.
his 4022's have been used maybe 10 times and are maybe a year old. Very
well cared for, brand new looking and acting. Purchased from SS.
XY/ORTF bar included.
I think if someone has a neumann SKM kit with extra caps, he'd be into that.
Ultimately though, I think he wants to find someone who would like to
come down from an ST-250 for these + some cash. Any other exotic stereo
mic (neumann , AKG) would also be considered. He's looking for
something of equal monetary value for what his DPAs w/bar are worth, so
no lowball , oddball or screwball offers.
- hes not looking to sell outright, so dont ask
- not interested in parting any of the items, so dont ask
email Carl Beck fishwater@comcast.net

6-8 hours a day is a lot of use even for a studio-quality deck.
I would definitely NOT recommend a portable like the D8 for this
project.
One of the low-cost studio (pro) decks such as Tascam DA20 or
Fostex D5 would be your best bet, but I wouldn't count on getting
two years, 8 hours a day without some maintenance (ie repair
shop).
If you're interested in one of these decks, I believe the DAT Store
has them new for $594. If the project has the budget, I'd consider
buying two. If nothing else, you could do the work twice as fast.
You also might consider a stand-alone CD recorder instead of
using the computer. This is a much faster, easier, more reliable
way to get the exact DAT information onto CDs. You can then
load the CDs into a computer for further editing/sweetening if
necessary.
Feel free to ask me any questions about DAT. I may be a bit
pessimistic saying that one deck won't last 4200 hours without
service, but that's my guess based on experience.
