From: "teasinthatbooboo" <teasinthatbooboo@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: Nickel Creek taping policy Date: Mon, 16 Feb 2004 12:21:21 -0500 Hey, gang - As far as I know, NC allows taping with no restrictions - audio, anyway. I taped them at the Music Farm in Charleston, SC last June and walked right in and set up a 15' Manfrotto right next to the 'board with no one saying a word. I wish no one *else* had said a word - the crowd was chatty as can be. This was not a big issue until the completely *unamplified* acoustic encores - with a full 1000 person crowd, the room was loud and the applause between songs was insane. The bartenders also saw the encores as a cue to throw every beer bottle away as hard as possible... A shame too - the encores were certainly a show highlight. I spent about three days trying to use a compressor to even out the applause/acoustic level differences, and gave up 'cos I couldn't figure out the whole process - attck time curves, and all that. My advice - get as up-front as possible (duh - when is that a bad plan?), bring the tallest mic stand you can get your hands on (gawd, you gotta love the 15' Manfrotto), and use hypercards or shotguns if you can... Hell, if you ask right, you might luck into board access or even a small onstage rig. They're a nice group of kids. Good luck, post your recording when you're done! SWG

From: JH <kc7fys@yahoo.com> Subject: DAT/CASS/CD shelves FREE in St. Paul, MN Date: Mon, 16 Feb 2004 17:06:56 -0600 I have three shelves I built for my DAT tapes, CDs, and analog cassette tapes. 1. 69" tall, 49" wide, deeper at the bottom. Holds a few hundred CDs on the bottom and analog cassettes on the top, stacked like books on a shelf. 2. 65" tall, 33" wide, shelves set up DAT height, holds several hundred DAT tapes 3. 65" tall, 33" wide, DAT tapes in the top, CDs on the bottom These are made from inexpensive pine shelf kits and masonite, and are sturdy and functional. If you have any need to store your collection in this manner, drop me a line. Zip code 55105. First person who'll come and pick up all three gets 'em. Of course they could shelve Beanie Babies, philatelic realia, spelunking momentos, hundreds of tiny airplane liquor bottles, cigarette packs, MDs... Regards, Jonathan
From: Michael P Murphy <gunkylol@earthlink.net> Subject: Nickel Creek taping Date: Mon, 16 Feb 2004 18:15:49 -0500 I have not seen them in over a year, but at that time they did not allow taping. The house sound guy asked them at soundcheck if taping was allowed and they said no. Michael

From: Jay <jaybird_2@bellsouth.net> Subject: a little yarn or not??? Date: Tue, 17 Feb 2004 09:35:33 -0500 Hi all, I wanted some opinions/feedback etc on something if I could from youse guys. A friend of mine just posted this to a 'private group' I'm on,,, basically a small group of similar interests where we trade a very particular type of music which most are NOT interested in-- which explains the small element I mentioned. If you could read the below posting and LMK what you think? I tend to not believe it myself but one never knows. Thanks! >Date: Tue, 17 Feb 2004 01:06:08 -0000 >Subject: Copyright story..... >Folks, I just read about a guy who was fined $72,000 ( yes, I think >that's right) for trading live rock Cds of some pretty high profile >bands. Trading, not selling. The UK has been making some new >amendemnts to copyright law and over here in the US the RIAA is going >after people who download. I'm trying to hunt down the story. > >I'd like to hear your comments on this issue as I am undecided about >what to do if anything. Again, for some reason, I feeel like this is a Chicken Little story but if you've heard anything could you give a web site addy or pointer to the original story? Any help appreciated....
