For all the people wondering about DiO 2448 and WinXP, I got my DiO 2448
working in WinXP and I think the trick was that I first got win2k and
installed the soundcard using the win2k drivers. Then I upgraded the system
to WinXP and still got the DiO card working. Hope it helps someone.

i don't think there is any one specific site/authority that goes into
everything in detail etc - in general the perception that japanese media is
"better" grew out of alot of problems people had using taiwan-made media
from the early daze of CD-Rs.....are all taiwanese factories "bad"? are
things there "better" now in general than they once were? who knows?
there is a bunch of "info" (ie: opinions) at various CD-R related discussion
groups on the web
try places like this:
http://www.cdfreaks.com/
http://club.cdfreaks.com/
http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?s=ac0a0cfe8f2bbbc44fa56811920b9a4d
&forumid=33
or this:
http://www.cdrlabs.com/
http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/index.php
http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=1&sid=327d50729e7ce0a737325f203

cdspeed has a bunch of info on things, mostly testing they've supposedly
done on different readers/writers for speed & DAE accuracy, also has testing
on media
http://www.cdspeed2000.com/
http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=cdrmedia_intro.html
http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=cdrmedia_testresults.php3
this is a great site for learning everything you may be curious about in
general about CD-Rs & may have some links for more specific stuff like
"quality"
http://www.cdrfaq.org/
this site is good for understanding "quality" etc issues but has alot of
outdated info...the concepts are good though:
http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_factories.shtml
http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_quality.shtml
http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_dye.shtml
you need to take everything you read with a grain of salt though & try
things for yourself, see what works best in your equipment for one
thing....also no way of knowing for sure how well something you burn today
will be "ok" tomorrow though...personally i've had more problems using stuff
from taiwan factories than japanese ones so i avoid them & stick with what
has worked for me so far (mostly japanese T-Y's)
YMMV

I know I'm off list subjest - however we have some great brains here and I
appreciate the great advice from this list - what's the best software to use
to burn DVD's and is it possible to copy DVD to DVD (commercial) and is it
legal to copy my VHS tapes (commercial releases) to DVD as long as I keep
the tape? Is this something I want to do, quality wise? Thanks in advance

Subject: Primus Needs Tapers
Date: Sat, 28 Feb 2004 12:41:02 -0500
Hey Now!
We are 3 shows into the Primus tour. Last night in Houston, there was only
ONE taper. That's right ONE taper. This person had a really nice rig, but
unfortunately had some technical issues that prevented the capture of ANY
audience recording. That's right NO freakin Audience source exists for
2/27/04. Period.
I know many folks think that US tapers show up in droves to TAPING FRIENDLY
shows and HELL YES Primus IS TAPING FRIENDLY! But this is a case in point
that it is not always the case. So if you ARE a TAPER and you DO plan on
attending one of the shows listed below. PLEASE take your gear w/ you and
TAPE. Texas is a big state. There's 2 more shows there tonight and tomorrow.
Primus is playing a different 1st set every night and a different encore.
The second set will be 'Sailing The Seas Of Cheese' in it's entirety.
It is in the Primus contract to ALLOW audience taping. So don't be a pussy.
If you encounter ANY hassle by venue security that try to keep you from
taking your gear in, demand to speak to Derek Featherstone, Primus's
soundman. You WILL get in!

Does anyone know a recording that exists of the Codetalkers show Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi sat in on?

Subject: Soundboards For Trade: Sting with Garcia & Dead@RFK 6-25-93

I'm up for some trading and just got these excellent soundboards of Jerry
Garcia playing with Sting and the Grateful Dead's sets from RFK Stadium on June
25, 1993, so I'm offering them up for trades. This is the complete night from
clean soundboards except for the last hour of the Dead's set, which has been
patched in from a nice front of board audience master (see notation below for
specifics) and fits on 4 CDs altogether.
If you'd enjoy a trade, please send a list or link. I'll take on as many
trades as possible and will take a B&P from each list I send this to. Not looking
for any Dead, but I am looking for other Garcia/Sting or Garcia/Traffic
masters from this era and any Robert Hunter shows when he was with the band Comfort.
Also looking for pre 1980 Harvey Mandel recordings, other than the December
68 Matrix show.
Here are the show details. Stu

I'm using Sonic Studios DSM-6's with a Sony TCD-D100 - anyone have
something for sale and/or recommend a decent preamp to use with the mics -
Sonic makes one that is pricey ($1000) probably worth it, but the other half
so NO! suggestions/comments/questions/criticisms??
