Hi,
I am looking for a pre amp for my rig I am digging out of the closet. I
will be using AKG c1000's and a Sony D8. Can any suggest a moderately
priced pre amp. I am trying to stay below 1K. Lower would be BEST!
Any help you could provide would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Joe

Jason,
Check in the DAT Heads archive. This was discussed at length around
97-98. Here is the link to Gary's original directions.

It's basically using the insert jacks to get a direct out from each
channel then mix using your own portable mixer. It's a good idea but you
need more access to the SBD than a simple patch. Most sound engineers
won't be willing to let you do this.

The mixer I originally recommended is small and battery powered.
But it lacks "solo" buttons and has only 5 stereo pairs of inputs.
(10 inputs total if you're willing to put things hard left or hard
right).
It's called a Rolland MX-5 and lists for $200, but I bought it (many
years back) for $99 at Guitar Center.

I taped Cheryl Wheeler there once ( a board patch ) with no hassles.
She OK'ed it and it was fine with them after that. This was in April
of 2002.
Hope this helps, Michael

Subject: DAT alternatives?
Date: Wed, 03 Mar 2004 04:32:33 -0500
I'm looking to upgrade to either DAT or one of the HD based options, and
basically I'm looking for any resources that point out the pros and cons
of either. I'm having trouble locating a DAT that doesn't look too shady
in my price range on ebay (and I can't find any place else that doesn't
want $500+ for a deck) so I'm starting to think a non-DAT alternative
might be the thing to do. I'm looking to get some SonicStudios DSM-6
mics, so something that would work with that would be super. I'm not
totally against buying DAT if it's definitely the best option out there,
but I'm curious into the alternatives out there, especially in the world
of stealth taping. Any advice would be most appreciated!

Neil Young tapers watch out. I don't have the tape, but I heard he played
for 3 hours-13 minutes the other night in Albuquerque. The Greendale portion
is running about 90 minutes, so two 60meter tapes is a good option.

Subject: NDC - CDR burning question?
Date: Wed, 03 Mar 2004 15:32:03 -0500
Sorry for the lack of DAT content. However. This has always been a place of
great knowledge for me concerning music reproduction.
I am having a problem with burning. I have tried everything to fix it. Roxio
has not replied to my query. When using Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 "Platinum"
the Creator Classic option whenever I create an image to the hard drive and
subsequently burn it to CD there seems to be quick snaps or pops between the
tracks. Not every track but some. I have tried using the Disc Copier mode
without creating an image and it seems to work fine. However. I want to use
Creator Classic. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?? I would really
appreciate it. Again sorry for the waste of bandwidth. But this is getting
irritating.
Thanks for any input. - DJ

Let me know if you need help taping the Subhumans tonight. I can help keep
people away from your rig and as quiet as possible. I have problems with
the power supply on my SV-255 so I'm not taping tonight.
Cheers,
Gregory

Ok. I'm just not using this gear as much as I could use the money. It would
be best for me to sell this as a package. Since most people only want pieces
of package deals, (usually) I'll go that route if there are no package
buyers.

brand new. Even comes in original shipping box) $50.00

AT 8410a shockmounts (Once again...I'm the second owner. These look brand
new as well and come with original packing box for each. $70.00 (will also
include the standard non shock mount mic holders...fit same size mics as
