From: GaoBest@aol.com Subject: Q on rechargeable batteries Date: Tue, 30 Mar 2004 23:10:41 EST Hey people, A few years ago, I bought Radio Shack's rechargeable NiMH AA batteries, so that I can recharge them to bring to shows. It's been awhile since I've attended a show, and I probably left batteries in the portable DAT machine for a few months. I'm trying to recharge these batteries, because I plan to attend a show on Thursday and would like to bring my portable DAT machine. Unfortunately, one of the batteries shows NOTHING on the recharger - no red light, no green light. I thought that maybe one of the recharger lights was gone, so I flipped positions, and still - no red/green light at all. Is it possible for a rechargeable battery to no longer recharge? Does it have a shelf-life? I realize that these rechargeable batteries only cost a few dollars, but I'm in a bit of shock. Anyway if someone can advise, that'd be great. Now I only have 3 batteries and not 4, and as most of you know, sometimes it's helpful to also have a battery for a microphone if you bring a microphone to a concert. Thanks in advance/ Mike xx
From: Seth Breidbart <sethb@panix.com> Subject: Re: Q on rechargeable batteries Date: Tue, 30 Mar 2004 23:35:07 -0500 (EST) Yes, rechargeable batteries can die. You can get 2300 mAh NiMH AA batteries now for $2 each (or 2100 mAh for $1.50) so I wouldn't worry about reviving dead ones. http://www.batterystation.com; I've bought from them before. Seth

From: "Andrew Marold" <andrew.marold@wlm.edial.com> Subject: Re: recommendation for making a dat list? Date: Wed, 31 Mar 2004 08:51:23 -0500 Even though it hasn't seen any updates in years, I'm still using Tapetracker (www.tapetracker.com). Lets you enter set lists, lots of info about the show, can make j-cards, and export your list in text or html formats. Also has libraries of shows so you just enter the date and it fills in the set list.
From: "Dan Boardman" <boardman@bellsouth.net> Subject: Dick's Pick's 12/19/73 Date: Wed, 31 Mar 2004 08:57:36 -0500 I know I'm way off subject here - I have a store bought copy and cannot get the second disc to play - I have swapped the volume twice, tried it on about 10 different players and computers - Disc 2 just won't play - anyone had a similar problem - the store will only exchange - they don't have any left - maybe someone on list has a copy I could trade for or something (I have bought the discs can send a jpg of them if need be) and am entitled to a back up copy. Thanks Dan

They are cheaper and better these days thanks to good healthy competition between the big battery manufacturers (Eveready, Duracell, Ray-o-Vac). I just picked up an 8-pack of Energizer 2300 mAH NiMH AA cells at Wal-Mart for $17.xx. Great deal. If you want to try and revive the dead cell (it is possible that it was just run down too far for the charger to acknowledge that a cell has been placed in the bay), I've found a trick that often works with the Sony OEM charger shipped with the M1/D100. Put both batteries in the charger and take a paper clip (or any conducting piece of metal) and connect both of the + tips of the batteries together. This will fool the side with the dead cell into thinking a live one is in the bay and the circuit will energize. Once energized, it will attempt to charge the cell and if the cell is still good, the charge will take. -- Wayne D. Hoxsie Jr. wayne@hoxnet.com PGP Key ID 138BCEE1
