The SBM-1 was originally designed to replace the mic inputs on
the D7 (and later, the D8) and it was a very big improvement for
this. However, if you're not using the mic inputs on a D7/D8, here
is something to consider: the SBM-1 is a battery hog, and the
chances it will ruin your recording by dying before the end, is
greater than the chance you will hear a sonic improvement. MHO.

Hello All,
I have a Sony PCM-R300 Dat deck for sale. I purchased the deck new from Klay
Anderson Audio in December 1997. In March 2000, at 1000 hours of use, the
deck was sent to Paul Plotnick at Pro Digital for a cleaning and transport
modification. Currently the deck has 1279 total hours of use. I have all the
original packing, etc. but am missing the remote. I'm looking for $175 plus
shipping.
Thanks for the bw.

Has anyone taped The Shins lately? I've seen older board tapes and was
wondering if they still allow taping especially since they've been getting
so much attention lately. Will see them on Friday.

The Derek Trucks Band will be making their long awaited
return to Japan next month, and it'd be a shame for these
shows not to be taped.
05/17/04 Namba Hatch - Osaka, JPN
05/19/04 Bottom Line - Nagoya, JPN
05/20/04 Shibuya Club Quattro - Tokyo, JPN
05/21/04 Club Citta - Kawasaki, JPN
05/22/04 Hibaya Outdoor Theatre - Tokyo, JPN
The band allows open taping in the U.S., not sure how or
if the policy will be changed in Japan, but it likely won't
be a problem getting your gear in. As always though I
guess it's venue dependant...
If you think you'll be able to tape any of these, drop
me a line (nickg@mindspring.com) if at all possible.
I'd be more than happy to compensate you with blank
tapes, discs, whatever.

I keep seeing comments on here from tapers/traders who don't want their
shows converted to shn or flac (or ape). As I understand it, these are
lossless formats, so why would this upset you? Many traders circulate their
recordings via "vines" and it's very convenient to circulate them in any of
these lossless formats because a) very often a 2-disc set can fit onto 1
disc in compressed format; and b) these data files provide additional error
correction not available in your standard audio (wav) format. I can
understand a taper not wanting his recordings circulated to "the world"
without his permission, but I don't understand the aversion to these formats
no matter what the means circulation.
