I used an SBM1 and a D7 for along time. Before I bought the SBM1,
I borrowed one to do sound comparison tests. Using NAK300s, an
MV100, an SBM1 and a D7, I ran all of the chain permutations
using a repeatable sound source.
When using the external preamp to isolate the comparison to just
the differences of line level input and A/D , I heard a distinct
improvement when the SBM1 was the A/D verses the internal A/D in
the D7.
If power is a concern, get a 7.2AH SLA. That will power the SBM
and a D7 for over 6 hours.

if you have an external power supply for the sbm-1, say an ecocharge, it'll
run it for 8-10 hours. i've never had the guts to run it off AAs, but i
dont see how power should be a deterrant from using one. as for sonic
improvement, i've only used the mod.SBM-1. but, one time i ran both an
ADC-20 and the mod.SBM-1 out of one rig at once and thought the mod.SBM-1
had a
warmer, more natural sound. i'd also give the SBM-1 some bonus points for
size, durability, and ease of use. ...my .02

While I do agree that the SBM1 is a battery hog (sometimes I call it the
Super Battery Muncher), I haven't had it die on me in show situation, ever
(except those times I forgot to put fresh batteries, oops!). I have done
some A/B comparisons with my old sonics going directly into a D7 mic input
vs. the SBM mic input, and the difference was very noticable. With SBM was
much brighter and tighter.
If you're going line in, there is probably less of a difference.
My SBM consistently gets at least 3.5 hours of life from new alkalines, and
now that I've switched to rechargables, it lasts even longer! I had the SBM
on for 5 hrs with the fresh rechargables, it still had 2 bars of "life"
left!
All other factors being equal, I would always choose to use the SBM over not
using it.

On July 4th, 1999 ( Sunday ) Jug-o-Lightning where
supposed to play
at Rudyard's Pub, due to physical heatlh problems
Aaron Leosh could
not perform ( so we thought ).
The bar was getting packed and it was getting close to
about
10:30-11pm
and no band. Jug-o-Lightning used to play every Sunday
night at Rud'z
from
12am -2am for free but, not on this night of nights.
so who shows up...?....the queen herself Carolyn
Wonderland, after 2
1/2
days of nonstop drinking she decides to play, solo
non-the-less for
about
an hour ( about 50min ) then Aaron gets drunk enough
to sing ( he
happened
to have a serious flu ) but the show must go on! he
says. so he gets
up there
and jams with Carolyn for about 1 hour.
this was an off cuff show, no one knew this was going
to happen,
mainly me.
so with mics in the air i taped untill they threw us
out around
2:30am, it was
a crazy night, i give these to souls tons of credit,
the one so drunk
can barley
even sit up in her chair and the other sick and drunk
but, they
played their
hearts
out.
this is fresh out of the vaults people. NO ONE ON
EARTH HAS THIS.
this is the 1st time for this to surface. here's the

PS - First thing I do after taping a (taper-friendly) show is transfer,
split, convert to flac and set up a torrent. Then I don't have to do a bunch

Hi,
I posted a week ago about this V2, and eBay had a problem with me asking to be
reimbursed for PayPal fees and it therefore was cancelled. I just reposted
the auction starting at 500.00 in accordance to their user's agreement. I
apoligize to those that were bidding before.

Long ago I learned that a secret is best kept when
known by just one person. Once let out to a 2nd
person it is no longer a secret and chances are likely
that it will be repeated and exposed.
Once you give your prize recording to someone else, it
is bound to circulate. You knowingly surrendered
"exclusive" control over the recording and have put it
into the stream of circulation and wide distribution.
So stop crying when your prize recording is on STG
against your will as you have no one to blame but
yourself for letting go of the recording in the first
place.
Those who do not wish to see their shows circulate,
simply should not release them to anybody. Period.
End of discussion.
Of course, as between friends, when somebody gives you
a recording with a do not circulate restriction, and
you breach that trust, you probably also surrendered
that friendship.
As for me, I take pride and truly enjoy seeing as many
people as is possible in possession of my recordings -
obtained by whatever means. I enjoy it when someone
tries to lure me into a trade by offereing me one of
my own recordings. And I get a rush every time I see
one of my recordings on someone's list.
Just my $.02 -
PhilD

In an effort to find something like a Shure SA15 ... only cheaper, faster,
better..
I got a line on a Bogen 3076 but it needs an adapter to convert the head to
mic thread.
I think that this MIGHT be a 3366 (Bogen MIBA 3/8"F to 5/8"M Microphone
Thread) but none of the photo shop people seem to know what a microphone
is....
I have also found a 3110 (Triple Microphone Holder) which looks like a
killer spreader bar, but there is so little information given on what I
can't be sure.
If anyone can shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated!
TIA

Well, I can't really answer why one couldn't expect to find spindles of 50

Maybe those will work for you? And they are cheaper than $5/50 !!
