Thanks for your replies. As you said, it turned out being a wireless box
about the size of a walkman radio, with earbud headphones and a volume
control. This is a stealth taper's dream - a direct wireless feed! But, of
course I blew it, since my 1/8" mic cable has a female receptacle on the
other end - I could not plug in. All I would have needed is a 1/8" to 1/8"
male connector.
Oh well, I still did my second stealth ever with my mini stereo mic. It
does pretty well, but this was a comedy show. At a regular rowdy concert,
hanging a mic out of your pants does not work so well. Its a bummer I
missed out on a better recording, but I know now for next time - its the
perfect rig! My wife was not thrilled with the idea that I told them she
needed the "phonic ear" as they called it. Oh, well thanks for your input
again - I would have never known about it if I did not check the
ticketmaster site at the last minute for direction to the theater - they say
there that the headphones are available.
One last comment about audience noise - a point I think may be missed here.
I don't really think it much of an issue at taper-friendly shows, when your
mics are 8-10 ft in the air. But, when people stealth - the people around
you make all the difference if it is good or not. The annoying people
always find their way to us it seems regardless.

Hi,
I'm looking to tape a show soon. I just upgraded from MD to DAT very
recently. I was going to go the PDAudio route, but that actually turned
out to be way too expensive, esp. with the da converter and preamp!
Anyways, here was my typical setup on my MD:
AT853s -> SPBDF Bass Roll Off @ 95Hz -> Line IN to Aiwa AM C-80 MDR
I'd like to know how I should setup the same mics and bass roll-off box
(this is the battery module w/ adjustable bass roll off from sound
professionals) with the M1. I bought the 853s off a friend who used them
with his M1, but can't recall exactly how he had it setup.
Should I go LINE-IN or MIC-IN? Should attenuation be 0db or 20db?
Going to tape Grant Lee Phillips in about 2 weeks and would greatly
appreciate any insight. I get digest on Dat-Heads, so if you can reply
directly to my address also it'd be better.
Thanks,
-= Ayaz

Noisy people suck regardless of whether you're taping
a show or not.I don't mind the occaisional
conversation
that's fairly normal and certain bands attract certain
crowds which you can also count on.
But this one guy sitting next to me at a recent Yes
show was a total jerk.He bought a poster, rolled it up
into a tube, and was using it as a mega-phone shouting
device, right next to my face and right in the
direction
of my stealth mics.I gave him dirty looks the rest of
the night,I think He got the message.
The prick was shouting stupid crap all night to
the band members, like they're going to listen to him.
How can anyone with half a brain think they can hold
a conversation at a concert with ear-splitting volume
levels and try and speak louder than the band?
Talking and b.s.'ing while someone is performing
onstage is extremely rude regardless of whether you're
taping.People with cell phones at concerts make me
sick. They hold their cell phones up in the air like
they think they're sooo cool.Morons.

So you believe that a recorded movie, which will be shown thousands of
times identically, and does not involve any artists in the showing, is
_more_ deserving of respect than a concert, which is a live
performance by the artists and cannot be repeated?
Can you explain your reasoning?

Hi has anyone taped or is taping The Offspring on their current tour?
Unfournatly since they're so punk rock they don't allow taping, but if you
are taping them I would really apprecate it if you could tape the opening
band Auf Der Maur. Will gladly reimburse / find something to trade you.
Also If anyone taped them on their last european tour and would like to
trade please email me. Several shows to trade.
thanks!
