I've seen several shows with large diaphragm mic sources...which is sort of my barometer on how low profile you need to be. :-) Hope that helps... Nick

I eliminated that for the most part, but recording a minute = and then rewinding and making sure I see levels, heh the dreaded = 'misload', burn me once and that's it ... MA * From: acffh <morst@tds.net> <mailto:morst@tds.net>=20 * Subject: Maxell vs Sony for 3 hour tapes in a D8=20 * Date: Sat, 22 May 2004 10:33:17 -0500=20 * We have a problem with the infamous "Ghost Tape" also referred to as = the "Load Error" problem Sometimes the D8 will appear to record an = entire tape and when it is rewound and played back the tape is totally = blank, with no ABS or anything. This has happened to us using HHb and = Sony media, but we recently heard a rumor that the Maxell blanks are = less prone to "Ghost Tape" than the Sony's due to the hub locking = mechanism. "All Maxell data cartridges feature Maxell's unique = Saf-T-Lock- a hub-locking mechanism that assures proper tape tension and = prevents misthreading during the initial loading stage" I had previously = thought that it was an issue only with D8 and D7 recorders and that it = can be prevented by rolling a little sound onto the leader, then when = you need to start the recording, hit play, get a level, pause it and go = into record mode without hitting stop. but now this rumor about the = maxells comes along. . . is it just marketing hype? Has anyone had the = "Ghost Tape" happen on a Maxell master?? I figured the list could use a = good DAT-related question!!! thanks for your responses. :-)=20

Date: Mon, 24 May 2004 15:13:02 -0700 Hey now - I have been archiving all my DAT's to flac and have a bunch to get rid of. Selling in groups of 10, please don't ask to separate them. I tried to group them in like genre's. Asking 17.50 per group (1.75 per dat) plus shipping. The majority of these have nice j-cards I made for them. Mostly Sony DDS, but some Maxell's and others also in there. I would prefer Paypal for payment so I can do this quick as I am going out of town for a month, but if not we can easily work out something else. From: jjjewett <jjjewett@mailbox.syr.edu> Subject: FS: Sony Vaio C1VN Picturebook Date: Mon, 24 May 2004 20:49:41 -0400 I figured I would try to sell this here before I go to ebay. Im selling a sony C1VN picturebook. My origonal one got stolen back two summers ago. I got another one and also have a fujitsu p2046. Since I dont really do much taping anymore, I dont have any reason to keep the c1vn. So I am gonna invest in my playback system. This laptop is really small. I will attach links for specs and pics. Mine is stock and since I was using the HDD that is in it now for additional storage for my PDA, it doesnt have windows ME or any os on it anymore. but nobody should be using winME for any reason anyways. It has the 12gig HDD and 128 MB RAM. There are some minor scraches on the lid but it is fully functional. Also, it comes with the following accessories: PCMCIA CDROM USB Floppy VGA adapter ethernet rj-45 pcmcia card <-- extra, did not come with laptop two standard batteries <-- 1 extra, came with one origonal power cable (modded to accept DC from recharable batteries for example) 1/8" > rca (red, white, yellow) AV cable 3 extra trackball pads I would recommend that if a taper buys this unit. He or she buys a recharable battery system (cheaper than the quad capacity battery) for long usage in the field. I would also recommend that they buy a vxpocket and then use it as a 24-bit playback machine as well as a 24-bit recorder. Thats what i will be using it for if i dont sell it soon. A quick check of ebay sees a stock one buy it now for 800 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31557&item=3482033392&rd=1 Another stock one that went for 644 with 24 in shipping charges http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31557&item=3481512255&rd=1 My price is $600, shipped.
