From: Jeff Shirkey <jcshirke@midway.uchicago.edu> Subject: Bad Discs Date: Tue, 29 Jun 2004 01:21:24 -0500 I've been getting a bunch of bad discs lately, but they all seem to have one thing in common. When I get discs with a lot of digital pops and clicks, almost without exception those problems occur in the last track of the disc. Sometimes the problems are in the last 2 or even 3 tracks. I've even received some used (a couple times they were new, however) commercial cds lately that had pops in the last track, and I had to return them for replacements. I was beginning to wonder if it was my equipment. But the discs don't play right on my walkman, computer, home stereo, and car stereo. It can't be my equipment. But I really don't understand what the problems could be. The one cd I got today with problems was relatively old (1987), so maybe it suffers from "disc rot"? Maybe it's just a manufacturing defect? Any ideas? I use a Mac + Toast. I never have any problems at all burning cds. To my knowledge, I've never sent a bad disc to anyone. But for you PC users out there, I understand that the potential problems are a lot more significant. Is there anything I can do to spread the word to other traders about how to burn clean discs? I know about EAC...but other than that, is there any specific advice I can give to people who have sent me bad discs? I'm so, so tired of having to look around for replacement discs, I'm pretty eager to do something to try to remedy the situation. Thoughts or comments would be welcome. Please respond off list. Thanks, Jeff
From: jcarvalh <jcarvalh@lynx.neu.edu> Subject: FS: Sony R300 complete. Date: Tue, 29 Jun 2004 08:56:53 -0400 (EDT) Hello all, Looking to sell off one of my underused decks. Sony R300 Purchased new in March 2001 Hours: 390 Complete with manual, unused remote, all rails and guides, and original box. The machine has been used in a smoke free environment since day one and is in absolute perfect shape. This unit was upgraded in Sept 2001 with a new reel motor and hub (as well as other various cleanings) by Plotnick @ Pro Digital. Its solid as a tank and runs 90meter tapes amazingly well since the upgrade (invoice will be provided). Over the last 1.5 years, I have maybe used the machine for 2 hours of work. Its basically been sitting unused for a long time now. Again, this machine is is tip top perfect shape. I can provide photos if needed and will toss in a blank or 2 as well. Please email me privately with all serious offers. Pickup or delivery available if youre in the Boston area. Thanks to all. --- Jeff

I am not sure what WMA is (windows media?) 3) The JB3 allows both optical as well as analog inputs via mini plug 4) The JG3 has 3 separate outs, 1 headphone, then 2 stereo although, it looks like the phillips may fit better in your pocket than the JB3! peace, dan _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web!
