Hey DAT-Heads,
Since I rarely find myself recording shows with my portable DAT deck
anymore, and use my home deck to playback my tapes, I am putting my
Sony D100 up for sale. It is in great condition and records/plays fine,
the only flaw is the battery door is cracked but it remains in place
without any problem. Included with the deck is the leather case and
wall outlet power supply, and a Sony cleaning tape.
Asking price is $225 OBO. Please email me at mikelerman@yahoo.com if
interested!
Thanks,
Mike

Hello fellow DAT-Heads,
Chris Whitley is setting up to start another tour of the States and Canada
again and I'd like to try and get every show taped. His shows only cost
about $15.00 to get in and he usually plays in small clubs.
Chris Whitley is one of the most innovative/original artist out there. If
you have not heard of him, pick up one of his cds or go to his shows when
he's in your town. He is an amazing Singer/songwriter/guitarist who plays a
mix between Rock, Delta Blues, and sort of Techno dance music. He has worked
with Bruce Hornsby, Dave Matthews, Medinsky, Martin, & Wood.
If there is anyone in these areas who can tape him, please go to a show. He
allows recordings, audience and SBD hookups. Just get there early and talk
to the sound guys. They might ask for your name and address and for a copy
of the show but that's it. They are extremely cool. Please go and record
him, you will not be disappointed. Here's the current tour dates:

Subject: Mic2496/D100 issue

I've been running a Mic2496 with my D100 while waiting for all the pieces
of my PDA recording system to arrive. But it won't record at 44.1KHz.
With the Mic2496 set to 48KHz, recording works fine. With it set at 44.1,
the "record" and "play" indicators come on in the D100 display as
expected, and the meters show levels as expected, but the A-time display
stays frozen at whatever it was at and no recording happens. Any ideas?
A few other Mic2496 comments:
-Would really like a line-in! This is the greatest weakness for me.
-9V alkaline battery life while powering my Schoeps CCM4's was less than
2hrs which is not enough for the shows I record. Obviously a variety of
less-compact external battery solutions are possible.
-"Battery low" indicator light is not helpful-- it gives probably well
under 1 minute of notice before the battery dies. I'm not actually sure
it gives any warning at all. 10-20 minutes notice would be useful.
-Battery retention mechanism is difficult to get battery into, difficult
to get it out of, and prone to damage if you try to push in a (minimally)
misaligned battery. Would much prefer the sort of mechanism used in a
Denecke PS2 which is quick, robust, secure, and which obviates the on/off
switch of the device as you can just reverse the battery in its holder to
turn it off.
-Would prefer flat-type switches (eg, the type you move with the tip of a
pen, or the type on the back of a D100) rather than toggle switches. A
flat-mounted gain control like those on the Sonosax would be nice as well.
-External control of word length, rather than internal jumpers, is
desirable for those moving back and forth between DAT and laptop or
palmtop recording.
So, that's my wish list!
