Don't worry about the heads for about 2400 more hours. Check out what
all the buttons do. If it does something and you don't know what it
did, don't do that again. It's auto indesing is very goodm especially
when it's used to transfer LP's to DAT. It will atleast index each LP
side seperately n auto mode. I'm a little different than mosti in my
listening habits, I've taken many of my favorite shows and transferred
them back to reels. I absoultely don't like.CD's. IMO, any of my DAT
decks a Sony DTC-50ES, a Tascam DA 20 MK II or a PCM R-500, all sound
better than CD's, and sound almost as good (to me) as my reel to reels.
Both are much moree expensive than the CD player to maintain. One
advantage of the DAT is a Sony DGP-90 costs about $2.40 or less, last I
looked, for 3 hours of music recording at 44.1 or 48 khz. A 10.5" reel
of Quantegy 456 costs over $20, by about the cost of a DAT in an otder
of 10 ot more, and shipping is expensive on analog tape, and maintanence
is more expensive than a DAT.

Subject: Semi brickwalling question--help
Date: Sun, 25 Jul 2004 23:15:09 GMT
First, thanks to all who replied to my previous brickwalling question. I have
been having great success for the most part since you all helped me get over
this problem. A related question has arisen in a couple of my recent tapings.
Brickwalling as I previously encountered it pretty much just distorted the sound
entirely of a recording. I have had three recordings recently where the sound
level seemed find, not frozen, the -20db was on, and the sound was good right up
to a point. That is, nice a clear with distortion kind of in the high end of the
recording but everything below that sounding fine. I am not sure I am describing
this well. If any of you understand what I am talking about, your suggestions
and insights would be most appreciated. Thanks. Pls reply off list
