I'd like to use an .md5 file on one drive to verify the contents of a DVD that lacks a checksum. To explain a little more carefully, I got a DVD in trade that lacked the checksum file. The trader then sent me a checksum in the mail. I can't place the checksum onto the DVD (since it's been finalized), and I'd prefer not to copy the DVD onto my hard drive, just to check the contents. I tried prepending the full pathname before each filename in the checksum, but opening that with mkwact gives me the same error -- that the target files can't be found. Can anyone point me to a solution that involves editing the .md5? Or a reference for the proper syntax to use when the checksum file is not in the same directory as the files to be checked? (I know the standard syntax is: checksum; changing to , like substituting E:\NewTunes\track01.wav for track01.wav didn't work when the .md5 resides on C:\) thanks! -randy ------------------------------ From: Meurglys3@att.net Subject: FW: There ought to be a law! Date: Mon, 26 Jul 2004 23:37:35 +0000 Heads Up, Exactly what are one’s legal rights regarding the recording and trading of live concert broadcasts, the like of which are commonly available throughout the worldwide trading community. Can anyone point to legislation that legitimizes such practices? I know someone who’s been curious about this for quite some time, and I promised to see what I could find out. Are live concert broadcasts from sources such as FM, AM, SAT, WEB, etc. copyrighted? If so, who holds the copyright? Is it legal to record these in ones home? Is it legal to then trade these recordings with others? Someone also asked me about live performance recording. I googled around a little and came up with something called The Federal Anti-Bootleg Statute {18 USC 2319A} which prohibits the unauthorized recording, manufacture, distribution, or trafficking in sound recordings or videos of artists' live musical performances. I suspect this someone has done some stealth recording, unaware that he was actually breaking the law. He never directly got involved in manufacturing, distribution, or trafficking, and he never “inhaled,” but he’s just sick over the thought that he still might be a… bootlegger. I told him that in spite of this statute, many artists are now permitting their fans to record and trade their live performances. They realize that they don’t need protection from their true fans that have supported them through thick and thin, but rather from the morally bankrupt recording industry vampires and their legal Dwight Fry’s who sucked them dry then dropped them like the plague. I also prophesied that those who deny their fans this privilege now might not find them around when the bubble bursts and they’re banished "back to bars". Statistically, only 15% of them are going hit the big time anyway, according to the RIAA. The feedback among the group regarding bands that allow taping is good. Please participate in further discussion if you have more valuable experience, advice or insights to share. For starters, Who is authorized to authorize the recording? Who is best to approach? What constitutes authorization, verbal or written agreement? Oh, my advice to my beleaguered friend regarding the anti recording Nazis, don’t attend their concerts, and you won’t be tempted to make, sell, or trade unauthorized recordings. Don’t buy their cd’s, dvd’s, and merchandise, and you won’t be tempted infringe on their copyright. Belly up to the beer hall boys! Hey, the politicians tell us we can take back the country, maybe we can take back the music too! Incidentally, we’re thinking about investing in chain of bars. “Rise my heart, and raise your voice with music. For he who shares not dawn with his songs, is one of the sons of ever darkness.” Gibran Tom ------------------------------ From: "Kyle Gustin" Subject: laundry (Tim Alexander) Date: Mon, 26 Jul 2004 21:19:13 -0400 Has anyone taped Laundry with Tim Alexander (drummer for primus)? kyle --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
