If anyone will tape this to DAT, and B+P or somehow get to me a crisp
copy of this I will personally offer right now to make 10 duplicates on
either DAT or on 4 track, 2 channell reel to reel at the recipients
choice of 3.75 or 7.5 ips on a Teac X-1000. Any analog copies made I
have to put this stipulation on, that the tape be B+Ped and the analog
copies can only be used to make digital copies from. I do not offer
this to have analog to analog copies made over and over, due to the
inherint loss of A>A copies I also will only make analog copies on new
tape. I am offering to do this because I believe reel to reel is
unquestionably the best sounding audio source I've heard, and this is a
treasure that must be archived in as fine an audio form as possible. I
will also keep a compressed form of this in the highest Bit/Sample rate
compared to the DAT as is reasonably possible. In other words if I get
this on DAT at 16/48, I will transfer and compress it at CD quality.
I'm not going to leave split 4.1 samples/second on to archive it at
16/48 when there presently is no common way to playback decompressed
16/48 audio. I have no doubt that this will be archived at 24/96 and
perhaps even 24/192. I'll leave that to others. When I have tried to
record 16/44.1 wav files>digital outputs>dac>analog, I have not been
content with recorded results, thus my reasoning to resample to 16/44.1
and compress to shn. Again, my opinion is that SHN is the most commonly
used compression algorhithim. If others believe it should be saved at
16/48, compressed, then they can decide to do that. I simply want to
contribute what I believe is to be a major find to archives. Archives
that will be available to others. I cannot make tape copies in
perpetuity, due to wear factors. DAT clones will be made on a Tascam DA
20 MK II>Sony PCM R-500. If someone wats a DAT copy, DAT copies will be
made on 60 or 90 meter tapes and Reels will be made on your choice of
NEW Quantegy 406/407, 456/457, or higher grade tape. My personal
feeling is the X-1000 Decks are originally biased for 406/407 tape, and
my decks have been re-biased for 456/457. If my goal is to offer this
out for major archiving and listening joy, my X-1000's are to pristine
to run some Maxell tape that is 15 years old through. If you have NOS
EE tape, I will make copies to that, but no other old or used tape. If
you would like to put leader on tape, and auto reverse foil on the
opposite side of the tape from the recording surface prior to sending me
the tape, I will record it. Just please don't send me a 10.5" reel of
old ampex 456 that says AFRTS and has a tape # on the box.
As I am willing to make this available as an archive, and put some
serious time into this, I would deeply appreciate the opportunity to
recieve a pristine DAT of this. Additionally if I find that my efforts
have been used for financial gain, I will notify friends in Wyoming who
routinely drop game at up to 1/4 mile away with powerful rifles and
scopes, and hope their moral fiber rises to the surface. Fortunately, I
was only flat out within 5 cm out to about 350 yards, and I no longer
have weapons. But memories of my days at a reloading bench tapping
shell casings to get more powder in the case return, as do memories of
vaporized gophers who were hit with small bullets traveling out of the
muzzle at over 4000 fps. Gophers were fun to shoot. If you miss one,
they stand up on their hind legs and try to figure what went whizzing
by. AMF after that. Wyoming is beyond the civilized world, at least it
was when I lived there. I don't think the influx of my wealthy current
neighbors has changed more than a few pockets like Jackson.
I have recorded numerous concerts that I recieved on CD>Digi
out>DAC>X-1000, and the soud quality of the tape is appreciated more by
everyone who has heard it. Congratulations to Colin for finding this
broadcast of a treasure of Rock History. I frankly am willing to
preserve a number of copies in what I believe are the 2 finest audio
forms availabole today. If you believe DVD-A, 24/96 or SAC are best, I
don't even have a basis for discussion. I don't think something like
this should be archived in only one manner. All I can say is the more
ways it is archived, the more options are available for the future.

As you may know by now, the BBC only broadcast about 19 minutes of the
show on the Dream Ticket last night. Ironically, since 6Music expanded
the Dream Ticket show about a month ago from 2 hours to 3 hours, the
"headline set" now seems to be about 15-20 minutes instead of the 60
minutes it used to be.
Now the good news - on 17 June 2004 (and possibly other times before
that), 6Music did broadcast the whole (I think) of this concert. I
recorded that particular broadcast.
But the bad news. BBC 6Music is a digital only radio station, and the
best available source is a 160kbps MP2 stream. My recordings consist of
the original compressed data saved to my hard disk - i.e. the original
1s and 0s as they left the BBC. I don't decode the MP2 data - I save it
in it's already compressed form.
This is the best possible way to record and archive 6Music broadcasts,
but that doesn't improve the quality of the broadcast, which whilst
good, doesn't match up the best analogue FM recordings.
There are also 2 or 3 different boots already available of this show.
I'm currently in the process of obtaining one ("Get Your Leeds Lungs
Out") and will compare that with my recording.
I don't know if there are any Stones experts on this list who can
explain the source/lineage of the various boots available from this show.
Dave.

Hello! We help out the trader community with very aggressive prices on the
Taiyo Yuden and Mitsui cdrs. I thought you would be interested in this
announcement from Primera regarding their new Z1 printer. They are a
manufacturer for professional printers and duplicators. The price of
$139.95 for this unit offers a very attractive alternative to labels and cd
marking pens. A pdf of this product is available upon request, just email
me. Product will be available late August / early September. Thanks, Joe
Navalance, Media Supply, 800-681-9214
We're introducing an exciting new low-cost CD/DVD printer this week. It's
called the Signature Z1 CD/DVD Printer. This innovative direct-to-disc
printer sells for just $139.95 It prints onto almost any shiny
silver or gold CD-R or DVD=B1R. Signature Z1 is perfect for use at home or i=
n
the office and is the first in a series of products that we're calling our
"Home & Office Products." You'll see other new items appearing in this
category soon.
=20
At this price, Signature Z1 is obviously targeted at the mass consumer
market for labeling CDs and DVDs for home videos, music mixes and photos.
You'll see it appearing in catalogs, retail and other consumer outlets. Bu=
t
it's also ideal for use in offices, churches, schools and more. In fact,
our own marketing people and engineers use Signature Z1 printers at their
desks for quick and easy labeling of back-up discs, beta software and
internal documentation. It uses thermal transfer technology, which means
that the ink is waterproof and permanent. Sell them by the case to your
corporate, government and school customers! And unlike the Casio CW-50
printer that prints just a single line, Signature Z1 prints in ALL FOUR
AREAS of the disc - automatically and hands-free. A built-in motor spins
the disc to perfectly align each print area.

So, I'm signed up to tape Cowboy Junkies on August 18 and over the weekend
the analog input jack on my D100 went flakey. So I'm hoping some kind
soul in the Seattle area might loan me a portable deck to use with my
Sonosax feeding the analog input, or a portable ADC that I can use to feed
the digital input of my D100. Of course I'll be happy to provide a copy
of the show.
Thanks,
