Date: Sun, 8 Aug 2004 04:19:14 -0400 IMO, giving cassettes (with live material on them, especially masters) to Goodwill would be a tragic mistake. Suppose some bootlegger happens to buy them? The best thing to do with them would be to hold onto them, transferring them later to a medium with a higher sampling rate then CD's.....yes Mike, I know *you're* content with the redbook standard, but others DO share my opinion that higher sampling rates are worthwhile, even for transfers from analog sources. What if one of your CD's gets damaged? Have you traded out a copy of EVERY ONE of those tapes? If you must get rid of them, then at least keep them in the family.....if someone asks you for a specific recording in trade, offer to send them the original tape as well as the CD. Offering them up here in exchange for blank media or to whoever wants to pay the postage would also be an effective way to "recycle" them. Whatever you do, don't destroy them or send them off to an uncertain fate....that could very well come back to bite you later, couldn't it? Yours Truly, john e. bogus PS- Oh yeah....I think one or two of those cassettes might even be masters of mine....didn't I loan you several a few years back when we both lived in the city? I know I still have a few of yours..... ------------------------------ From: rappard@dds.nl Subject: Sonic Youth taping policy Date: Sun, 8 Aug 2004 14:45:41 +0200 (CEST) Sonic Youth is still ok with taping, and Lee (lee@sonicyouth.com) still appreciates copies of shows. I have no clue about board access, though - it's been granted as recent as 2003, but since then...? They have never been used and are still shrinkwrapped. I have no use for them and will send them to whoever makes me a reasonable offer (e.g., to cover shipping). I'd rather pass them along to someone than just throw them away.
