Hi Adam,
You are absolutely correct. The stand you have is a lighting stand - they
are great stands. Bogen Manfrotto are some of the best in the business
(photo & taper). I know about this because I have one myself, and just
bought the adapter, b/c it was not clear in the documentation. It seemed
like you might be able to remove the lighting stud, but my guess is that it
is not meant to be removed, and the stand would be ruined in the process.
Anyway, you need: Bogen 1 BO3102 12.95 12.95
Rapid Adapter - 5/8" Stud to 3/8" Male Thread
You can get it at www.bhphoto.com I just ordered mine last week, I've had
the stand for a while now, but have not used it yet. I looked at all other
similar stands and picked Bogen, since they were the best. You will need
(if you don't already have it) a 3/8" option on your mike holder thread. It
is a European standard I think - my mikes came with the adapter that just
screws in the existing 5/8" thread.
Good Luck!
Dave

Although I found that the thin aluminum made it really succeptible
to noise transmission. I took the end out of the smallest, center
telescoping section and filled it with sterile playbox sand and
that's seemed to help; didn't add much to the weight.
