Date: Wed, 29 Sep 2004 10:53:40 +0000 Hey everyone, my current setup for recording is Sonic Studios DSM-6S/M -> SBM-1 (w/ Oade mods) -> D100 recently, I've been running into a problem with drum sounds - mainly bass being "overloaded." the rest of the music sounds fine, but usually the bass drum sounds distorted compared to the rest. It's not a matter of my recording levels, as I taped Rich Robinson last night with low levels - but it still occurred. Also, it's happened when I taped from fairly close to the stack (~10-15') but also further back (~50-60') So I guess I'm looking for any feedback as to why this is happening? Thank you- EH also - as for the settings on the sbm1 & d100: what input's should I be using (mic/line, -20db?) thanks again _________________________________________________________________ On the road to retirement? The first 60 minutes is complete, and the rest is fragmented. I would love to complete the recording using other sources. Apparently there were some video tapers there. If anyone here has (even an incomplete source / fragments) from video, or knows someone that videod the gig, please get in touch. I will of course provide audio in return. Thanks! Humbug email: humbugoneuk@yahoo.co.uk ------------------------------ From: "neal copperman" Subject: 2 hour vs. 3 hour tapes Date: Wed, 29 Sep 2004 18:20:19 -0000 I've been using the SONY DG60P DAT tapes for a few years now and have been really happy with them. I was about to make another order when my eyes wandered to the adjacent DG90P tapes. A lot of shows I go to are a bit more then 2 hours, but 3 would save me having to swap tapes in the vast majority of shows. Does anyone have reasons why I shouldn't just get the DG90P tapes? I already record over some of the shows I tape after I've transferred them to CD. As I watch the pile of DAT tapes that I'm saving grow, I'm starting to wonder if there is any real need for me to save them, rather then re-use them. I would assume that the DG90P's might have less of a shelf lufe (and re-use life?), but I'm not sure I care that much about that. Thoughts? neal ------------------------------ From: "Mike Bendoff" Subject: CD Storage Available Date: Thu, 30 Sep 2004 01:26:04 +0000 I have sturdy corrugated plastic boxes that each have 108 empty jewel cases in them. They are great storage for burned discs. Due to the cost of shipping, it would be best if you're in the Chicago area. Please make an offer. I have about 40 boxes but jewel cases for only about 15-20 boxes.
