Sweet. For $55 I'll take at least a couple! ;)
Actually looking at the specs, it has potential, but my list of shortcomings
would include:
Flash-only, HD would be better for longer recording times and is much
cheaper per GB.
2 GB flash media limit seems pretty low, especially at 24 bit. Why not at
least support the 4 and 5 GB Microdrives?
Battery times look mediocre at best
No digital input
It's a step in the right direction, but I consider these things to be
serious enough shortcomings that I wouldn't get one yet. Hopefully this is
just their first attempt and they'll fix/add these things in future
revisions!

Subject: Taper Needed: Free show at Boston City Hall Plaza - Sat., 10/9
Date: Mon, 4 Oct 2004 20:02:14 -0400
Hello, everyone,
I am a taper from New Jersey and need help from someone up in Mass. I am
working Sat. and Sun. all day and cannot get out of my Saturday shift.
SHOW INFO:
Band: Fountains of Wayne
Openers: No info on who yet
Date: Saturday, October 9, 2004
Location: Outside Boston City Hall Plaza
Bands start: 4:00 PM
Cost: Free!
The band's site is http://www.fountainsofwayne.com/tour/
Show info site: http://www.wfnx.com/1/home.asp
The band does not allow open taping. Stealthing is OK by them, and there
will almost likely be no security there to worry about.
I will pay for transportation to and from show, dinner, drinks, etc.
Fountains of Wayne will go on around 6PM, but I will call the people
running this show to find out their exact start time before the taper
goes. Their set length will be around 1 hour maximum, so you won't have
to stand there too long.
Please contact me if you can do this. I would really, really appreciate
any help at all.
I will record anything for you in return (open or stealth) with DPA
4021's > AETA PSP3 > SBM-1 (Oade TMod) > M1 (48 kHz)
Thanks,

Do you know if the 2GB CF card maximum is really the maximum, or only
the largest they knew of when they wrote the copy?

Hello all,
Here's the deal, I'm dead broke after just finishing some schooling, looking
for a job, blah blah blah. REM is coming town and I have people offering me
KILLER single seats for all 4 California shows. They are pricey, 90 bux
after charges, but hell this is REM and the seats are sick. I am happy to
broker the deal and set up tapers with tickets. Please email me if you're up
for some REM taping. They always put on a great show.
Shows in question are:
10/13 LA Greek
10/14 Santa Barbara Bowl
10/15 Berkeley Greek
10/16 Irvine Meadows or whatever it's called now.
Please help, it would be a shame to see these shows go untaped.

Subject: RE :DA-20 to CMedia too fast
Date: Tue, 05 Oct 2004 10:16:59 -0400
Hey Joe,
In case nobody has responded yet off-line, I thought I'd throw this out
there...
I don't have the same equipment that you have, but when I've had trouble
with stuff coming out too fast or slow after transferring, it has been
because the recieving piece (Prodif sound card, in my case) didn't
automatically sense the sample rate of the source (D7). Usually it does,
but go figure...
So, if your transfer is playing too fast now, your sound card probably
"stamped" the transferred data with the wrong sample rate. You might be
able to change the sample rate of the data file, using Soundforge, but
probably it's easier just to re-transfer with the sample rate set correctly
by hand (either in Soundforge or in the CMedia software setup).
Unfortunately, I don't know the details of how to do this on your setup.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
Mac

Dear DATheads:
I wouldn't be bothering the list if I hadn't already checked the web, the
archive (using google) and the DA-20 manual. No answers, so any help would
be most appreciated.
When trying to archive my DAT tapes using my DA-20 > SPDIF coax out >
Cmedia 8738 > Soundforge XP 4.0, I get recordings, but when played back the
music is much to fast. This is for 44.1 or 48 k tapes. I can use the
computer and my D8, and it seems to work fine. I have all the latest Cmedia
drivers. Using
Any suggestions for this DA-20? Any way to have input to the DA-20 for
factory defaults? I know the guts to this thing have more capabilities than
advertised.
Again, thanks in advance for any assistance.
Best Regards,
Joe

well, i took the plunge and bought my first computer ever (dell inspiron
8100 laptop $1500), i work all day on a computer so last thing i've
ever wanted to do was go home to one, but i finally folded.
still looking for some advice on linux audio/video tools.
i really need a good audio editor, gnusound wouldn't even compile (which
is surprising since most gnu stuff is easy to build).
here's what i've found so far:
cdp/cdplay command line playing cd
aplay command line playing sound files
xmms gui for playing sound files and cd
cdparanoia EAC'ing cdda audio *
cdrecord write audio files to cd
cdda2wav read audio file from cd
xcdroast gui front end to cdrecord (have to use ide-scsi interface) **
cdrecord-ProDVD read/write dvd (still testing, looks very promising)
xine play dvd with gui
*=xcdroast uses cdda2wav, but cdparanoia seems to have more paranoia protection
**=use 4x speed for 90 minute CDRs
anybody else found some good stuff out there!?
