Tiger Direct (the only place I looked thus far) has 4 GB CF cards for =
$340 and 2 GB cards for $169.
I agree that not having microdrive capability is lame on the Edirol R-1, =
and no digital in sucks, but CF cards really are pretty cheap now. =
That's six hours of CD-quality for $340.
Anyhoo -

I see everyone talking about the 24bit/44.1K mode; does this mean
it DOESn't have a 16bit/44.1K mode? And does anyone know how
much it costs (street price) and what size memory card that
includes? Finally, how big is it (compared to, say, a PCM-M1) and
what power source does it use?

No, it has both, plus several .mp3 modes. What it does NOT have is
any higher sampling rate (88.2, 96, . . .)

It doesn't exist yet; best posted price is in the $400's.

See the edirol web site.

Hi Jimmy and group,
The wav format spec supports a 32-bit byte counter. If unsigned long, then
it can keep a count of 2^32 or 4gb. Most windows audio applications use a
signed long value 2^31or 2gb. For compatibility with windows software, it is
practical to limit files to this size.
On Pocket PC, Live2496 supports files of up to 4gb in size. At higher data
rates, I reasoned that it might be sensible not to insist that users stop at
2gb. Therefore, I offer a free console mode utility for splitting bigger
files into 2gb chunks. http://www.gidluckmastering.com/audiohck.zip .
Perhaps this will be of use to you and others who might read this.
Each output file (child) inherits the attributes of the input file (parent)
regarding sampling rate, bits, and number of channels. Each file also
contains correct riff header counters and can be imported into windows audio
software. You can also use the application to correct wav header counters.

WAV files are limited to 2GB due to deficiencies in the file format
spec. The Edirol nit is probably limited by this fact. Many programs
(such as Sound Forge) use the .wav files as their native format. Go
much over 2 hours at 24bit and you are hosed - maybe the software will
halt recording, maybe it will continue writing a WAV file you won't be
able to open unless you are a digital surgeon.

I was wondering if anyone could tape this show. Here's the info:
Interpol
Avalon Ballroom
10-11-2004
Doors open at 8PM
$24 General Admission
The band's site says taping is not allowed but that trading is. My guess is
they have to say it's "not allowed", because why else would you be ok with
trading shows? Nothing wrong with stealth taping though :-) They are
frequently taped. If you have any questions feel free to email me. Thanks.
Bill
