Again, a nice preamp with ADC features for future HDD recording. I used to tape with CM-300's. Very nice mic's in my book, especially for someone breaking into mic taping for the first time. They're nice and durable, clean sounding for the price and people always seem to want a pair when you're ready to upgrade, so your resale value is pretty decent, provided you took care of yours. The CM-300's are powered by internal 9v cylindrical batteries that your local batteries plus or radio shack can help with. You don't need a preamp for phantom power like you do for oktava's or akg's or schoeps, etc. You CAN use a preamp, but only for dynamic signal. Supplying these mic's with phantom power would fry them. :-( Now, if you're eventually wanting to go A->D with a preamp/AD converter, I love my MiniMe, and I know there are plenty of folks who like the Edirol units, etc. Really, for that purpose, ANY of them would be good for you. Depends on exactly HOW powerhungry you need to not be, and how large you're willing to go in terms of taking your gear, and whether you're taking your AD output and piping it to DAT or to a laptop or palmtop, etc. I know that doesn't answer your question, of what to buy... the UA-5 is a good flexible choice, as is the minime or v3. Again, it's about where you're piping your signal, and how big of a rig you're willing to lug into and out of a club. I'd also seriously, seriously, seriously recommend getting a pellican case. It was the best investment in taping I've ever made. Good luck. ------------------------------ From: Richard Levy Subject: FS: Bruce Hornsby tix Kimmel Center Philadelphia this Saturday Date: Thu, 4 Nov 2004 01:17:04 -0500 Incredible seats for taping; 11th row dead center. Date: Thu, 4 Nov 2004 01:47:47 -0600 Any suggestions on this choice? I am thinking of switching from DAT if the fidelity if good. I see the Nomad has S/N of 98 versus IRiver's 90 but on the other hand Nomad is twice as big and some complain about durability. any suggestions on what to get for use with CoreSounds Cardiods stealth. Checked the web but if there is an especially good web site i might have missed, i'd appreciate knowing about that also. ------------------------------ From: mike hooker Subject: ISO: death vessel Date: Thu, 04 Nov 2004 08:03:04 -0500 hi, anyone ever tape a band named death vessel, or a solo gig by member joel thibideau? they are a new england based band, usually opening for other acts. if you have, please contact me. thanks have fun, mike hooker please see my music trading list at: http://hometown.aol.com/mhooker216/myhomepage/index.html being AOL, its doesnt always work. try later, or ask for a list ------------------------------ From: Mark Domyancich Subject: ISO: Steven Kinglsey Date: Thu, 04 Nov 2004 08:46:09 -0600 If Steven Kingsley is still on this list, would you be so kind as to write me back? (long) Date: Thu, 4 Nov 2004 08:57:32 -0600 Tried this quite a while ago, but buyer backed out. This is kind of long. Sorry. Not all are these DATs are beautifully labelled: Some have printed j-cards, some have scribbled notes. Most are on Sony DDS tapes, but some are on others. I have no time to listen to all of them to see if they're clean. Some may have diginoise or other problems of aging, but they were OK when I last listened to them, except what's noted below. Some 48, some 44.1. I think I count 33 tapes sitting here. I'd like to get $70. That's 2.10 or so each, postage included. Sound fair? Could send me check or cash, or use paypal. The first person who wants the whole pile will get them. You don't need a pre. How about just an A to D? Maybe you could find a used SBM. You know what they really work best with is a Sony D5. If money really isn't an option then I'd say get another pair of mics:)Good luck. Mark L. From: Benjamin Branch Subject: Preamp for Nakamichi CM-300's Reply-To: Benjamin Branch Date: Wed, 3 Nov 2004 02:12:45 -0600 I'm in the process of buying my first set of Nakamichi Mics. This will be the first time i've ever ran mics on a stand and with a preamp. So...I'm curious as to what Preamp the Datheads recommend for the Naks? Money really isn't an option, but the main part is making sure that I will be using, will be quality equipment to make Quality tapes. To give you some insight as to what I tape, I normally tape rock bands in Small to medium sized clubs. I've looked at the V3, which is nice and offers great features for the open taping hobbyist. I've also looked at the UA-5, with the warm mod as well as the digi mod. Again, a nice preamp with ADC features for future HDD recording. I've also taken an interest recently into the Sonosax SX-M2 (with the lemo mod). I've heard a few recordings recently with this and I loved the way they sounded. But, I really want to know what the DATheads have to say on this, as I know alot of you have a great deal more taping experience than myself. All of your information is great appreciated. Many thanks in advance, Benjamin ------------------------------ From: Karl Kubicka Subject: Taping gear for sale Date: Thu, 4 Nov 2004 11:04:20 -0500 Hello I am selling my taping equipment because I no longer get a chance to tape concerts...... kids and a mortgage and all that :-) I don't know what this equipment goes for used so I'll take offers.
