Hi everyone, Long time no see :(
Well..... Life has not been too swell lately....hence the reason for my
silence in the Music seen! It has been a long time since I've been able to
do my "music for Charity" Thing which I have surely missed!
Even missed out on a lot of great shows in the past year or so!
Lost my Wife to her mid life Crisis....
fought through 3 major hurricanes.....
The Wife took all that I had in savings last month.....
and is still trying to get more?
One great thing is that I still have my two Children every day...
but without being able to work like I'm used to.... the bills are piling up!
and now....
just when it was about time to get back on my feet and pick up the
pieces.....
I had to go to the emergency room because I started urinating Blood (which I
figured wasn't a good thing)
That sure helped the finances a lot!
I don't have Health Insurance!
The Hospital took me in, and held me for a week, but all they could tell me
after having test after test was that I had a large heterogeneous mass in
the mid portion of the right kidney anteriorly measuring approx. 6.5cm X
6.5cm, there are mixed areas of solid enhancement and several low density
areas which may represent necrotic regions. There are speckled
calcifications throughout the mass. This is suspicious for RENAL CELL
CARCINOMA and that I needed surgery to remove my right Kidney! But they had
the nerve to tell me that they couldn't do the surgery, that I had to get it
done at Jackson Memorial, or the Cleveland Clinic! So for the past 3 weeks,
I've been trying every where to get these "Professionals" to help me! But
without Insurance, they send me home without hope!
So It was brought to my attention that I should put my skills at raising
donations for others, to use for myself this time.... WHAT A CONCEPT! %^}
So what I'm trying to say here is that I WANT TO STAY AND JAM ON THIS EARTH
w/ you friends for a little while longer, so I've had a bunch of really KIND
FOLK help me in the past collect for all the other great causes that if I
could only get a few to help me out this time, that I just might be able to
save myself this time!
A friend has donated space and his web writing experience to build me a
relief site! I love you Noah!
And if anybody that has a site and has room could slide my link in for a
little while, I would forever be in your debt!!!
And if (I know it's not politically correct to spam people with this kind of
thing) Could send this far and wide.... Maybe if I could get a dollar for
every disc that I burned for people around the world... I could very well
pay for my surgery, and still have money left over to send to the Charities
that I worked so hard for in the past....And just think what a little more
than just a dollar would do....
Thank you my Phriends...from the bottom of my Kidney! ;)

I've been using an iRiver 20 for about a year and the 74 minute
file-size limitation of the iRiver can be a problem even if you never
record jam bands, but hey, it isn't any different than anticipating
whether you're going to run out of tape or not. It's just a question
of how well you guess at the length of the performance you intend to
record.
I thought of solving the problem by adding a second machine. iRiver
has a new model now.
As to the Nomad 3, I also have one of those and would describe it as
"usable, but klunky."

Hey now.... I've never used the IRiver so my point of view may be a little
one sided... but I love my JB3. They are actually so cheep now I have
picked up a second one just in case something happens. I've had no issues
with the JB3 and would highly recommend it (especially now that you can get
them for $140 or less.) I've heard mention of the build quality... So far
it seems pretty good to me. If you compare the cost of tapes and tune ups
of DAT decks I think cost of ownership for the JB3 would be much lower.
I also had an old 80gig laptop hard drive lying around and decided to
upgrade the JB3. It's a very easy process. (Email me if you want the
instructions.) The only issue that I have had is that the older drive I
added has decreased battery life a little bit. I've heard from others that
using a newer laptop drive can increase recording time up to 1 hour.
It probably does not matter much if you are only using the CoreSounds mics,
but one big advantage for me is that the JB3 has a digital optical port as
well as line in. This allows me to use my Sonic Studios PA-3SX/DSM mics for
stealth along with my DMIC-20/Naks when I run my full rig. I also prefer
the firewire connection to USB 2.0.
I can't speak from experience, but over on the JB3 mailing list, there has
been a thread going on about weather to use a pre or not with CS mics and
the JB3. One of the common comments I have seen is that even with a battery
box the combination of CS mics and the JB3 provide a somewhat low signal. I
do see this with my Sonic Studios mics so I use the Sonic Studios PA-3SX pre
when going stealth.
Stay Kind,
Dana

This is still in early development, but the team behind the "Rockbox"
open source replacement firmware for the Archos range of MP3 players
have set their sights on the iRiver. Progress is described here:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IriverPort
Their initial aim is to get MP3 playback and WAV recording working.
Once this happens ("months away" according to the main developer),
expect very rapid feature developments.
I am sure they happilly implement requests for simple "taper-friendly"
features such as unlimited recording time that are trivial to implement.
The Rockbox project was the reason I bought an Archos MP3 player in the
first place - it's amazing how liberating it is to know that the
software running in *your* hardware is under the control of the user
community, not the manufacturer.
Apart from any software limitations (which will hopefully be fixed by
Rockbox), would users recommend the iRiver?
Dave.
