Date: Sat, 20 Nov 2004 23:56:15 -0600 I had the opportunity to be a part of a studio session in which we =20 utilized the Blue Bottle. in February of 2001, Reason For Leaving was recording for a few days at =20= Madison's world famous Smart Studios ( http://www.smartgeeks.com ) and =20= if I remember correctly, Blue loaned 'em a Blue Bottle type 9612 =20 (according to my notes, it was serial #26-0086) we used the B-5 =20 capsule, which is omni "more bright" and we put it the channel through =20= a DBX 161 compressor before going to the studer 24 track. Yep. =20 Analog. Such a sweet sound, I was very spoiled after being in that =20 studio for 5 days over two weeks and did not listen to much digital for =20= a little while! Um, anyhow, the bottle was a very nice room mic but it would be =20 EXTREMELY impractical in the field, unless you were the house engineer, =20= or did not mind hauling the large power supply. If I recall correctly, =20= thats a big box with tubes in it, that has to warm up and stabilize =20 temperature before use. don't remember how long this takes. uh, a long =20= five minutes- see below- I would suggest checking out the specs at the Baltic Latvian site =20 http://www.bluemic.com/ http://www.bluemic.com/modules.php?=20 op=3Dmodload&name=3DProducts&file=3Dindex&prod_id=3D12 -tom a little cut and paste from a review I googled up- "The BLUE Bottle microphone is huge =97 would you believe 14,75" long? = It =20 weighs 4lb and, were it not such a special and delicate instrument, =20 could easily quality as the murder weapon in a Perry Mason thriller. =20 The 9610 power supply is even larger and heavier. =A0 The power supply also features a soft start circuit that ramps up the =20= tube's heater voltage and B+ separately. First it turns on the heater. =20= After approximately 80 seconds =97 when the cathode is fully heated =97 = the =20 plate voltage is gradually applied and the microphone output is muted. =20= After about three (long) minutes, when the mute has settled into its =20 correct operating mode, the muting is disabled and audio is output from =20= the supply. While I'm sure this makes the mic and its following mic =20 preamp very happy, I hated the wait. =A0 BLUE manufactures eight lollypopshaped capsule heads for the Bottle =20 mic: the B7 cardioid (single backplate, like a Neumann M7), the B6 =20 cardioid (dual backplate, like an AKG CK 12), the B5 pressure omni, the =20= B4 Perspex sphere pressure omni (like used on the Neumann M50), the B3 =20= midsize cardioid and the B0 bright by itself, I have no idea what the =20= B0 would sound like! =A0 SUMMARY =A0-You gotta hear this microphone! Definitely not a me-too =20= recording instrument =97 in either looks or sound =97 it is certain to = make =20 some adventurous engineers very happy. And, when one considers its =20 quality of material and workmanship, the asking price is actually quite =20= a bargain! =A0 =A0 PRODUCT POINTS =A0 Plus: =A0 Great sound =A0, Extremely high standard of fit and finish = =A0 Minus: =A0 Very large =A0 The Score: =A0 Definitely the fashion statement mic of the year; and = it =20 sounds as good as it looks. =A0 =A0 AT A GLANCE =A0 Applications: =A0 Recording and upscale project studios =A0 Key Features: =A0 Interchangeable capsule heads; way cool appearance =A0= =A0 Dr. Fred Bashour performs as a jazz pianist and church organist. A =20 regular contributor to Pro Audio Review. Dr. Fred never seems to have =20= enough microphones." However, I hope someone that will have the time to enjoy it will pick it up. I'm selling the following: Schoeps MK4 w/active cables and Rmod2k2 (aka Bill Box, Reutlehuber box). Must be sold together. Everything is in excellent working condition. The gear has been in great hands over the years and does have signs of wear on the mics and box. This is purely cosmetic and does not effect the sound. However, they have been taken care of and sonically in excellent condition. Trust me, the tapes this gear makes is amazing. Asking 1600.00 FIRM. Only serious inquiries, please email me for pictures and any additional info. I can be reached at mzero23@hotmail.com. Will take paypal if the buyer pays the paypal fee. Free UPS shipping on the gear. Thanks! -Mike ------------------------------ From: "wboswell@excite.com" Subject: RE: Info for those who believe they carry some right to their work Reply-To: wboswell@excite.com Date: Sun, 21 Nov 2004 13:13:24 -0500 (EST) Please share with us which torrent is 'yours' and why it shouldn't have been mass distributed. This may help others understand your position a little better. I could understand a scenario where you recorded a non-taper friendly band as a favor to the band, management, venue, or the like, and the said source was not to be circulated. However, it would seem that the ultimate responsibility would still on you, for having leaked the source. I am sure there are other examples of why you could be so upset, but as someone else mentioned, today's live shows are a commodity. There are tons of bands that allow taping, lots of which will have multiple sources leave the show. Also, there may be "pro" sources sold to the audience immediately following the show via new distribution methods like Instant Live. I just don't see the point in trying to lay claim on something that is supposedly done for personal fun and/or to share with others... same thing applies to "do not convert to mp3" messages in text files. Once I convert and distribute a show, I have given up any control over the 0's and 1's that were created. The whole point (for me) is to share. When its a burden and not fun, its time for me to be more selective about what I tape and distribute. Bottom line, if you don't want it out there, just don't share... > -----Original Message----- > From: Barry Lajnwand [mailto:blajnwand@verizon.net] > Sent: Friday, November 19, 2004 1:22 PM > To: dat-heads@datheads.phish.net > Subject: Info for those who believe they carry some right to their work > > > I recently requested that www.easytree.org remove a torrent of my work. I hadn't heard him before and was very impressed. If anyone wants to trade for a copy let me know. Date: Sun, 21 Nov 2004 18:48:13 -0600 Hi all. I taped a local band that i'm friends with last night, video, mics & sbd. The problem I have is with the sbd feed. Everything comes in mono left, though the sound guy told me he had a couple things coming in right, which you can see lower levels on the right side. My ? is, in order to get a stereo sounding recording once I convert to cdr, what's the best method to do that? I'm leaning to crunching everything down to mono, then back out to stereo. Is there a better way?
