here is a retailer's website, it lists recommended brands by burner. check it out. (not sure if they are simply pointing you to the brands that they sell or not). i have used with success in the past with both of my burners....

Hey there all you tapers interested in using Linux for transferring
recordings, splitting tracks, and burning CD's (and DVD's). I've put
together a small HOWTO which provides an overview of the comparable
{free} applications available under Linux for performing the common
tasks of a taper.

This is my first attempt at writing a HOWTO so if you have any feedback
or suggestions for improvement please send them my way. Enjoy!
Peace,
~Dave~

Hit up your local thrift store and pick up some 5 1/4 inch floppy storage boxes. CD-R's in sleeves and jewel cases fit perfectly in them. Price is minimal and bet you could swing a deal with the thrift store if you took all the boxes they had.
Nice in that you can label the boxes from the outside, many may still have their plastic tabbed dividers, and you can recycle something that otherwise would be thrown out.
