I bought one, and was pleased with it, and would now like to buy another drive. Anybody selling? Anybody know a dealer that understands what these are? Private reply fine, if you feel there is no general interest. Thanks! ------------------------------ From: "Mr Mxblxyxh" Subject: YLT Date: Fri, 17 Dec 2004 05:17:37 +0000 Does anyone have any of the recent December Maxwell's YoLaTengo shows? I have recorded on reel to reel decks, cassette decks and DAT decks. I find with all of them higher levels, unless you fry them, sound best. With both DAT and CD-R, I shoot for a levl around -6 with peaks maxing around -3 sounds the best, Often I have to back off from that, because the difference between a nominal level and peaks are greater than 3 db, but if I can..... With analog taes I try to hold nominal around 0, and wind up in the red most of the time. As long as I keep it from pegging the meters, I'm ok. If I used cheap tape I'd be hosed though. I use tape that has a higher bias than my reel to reels had available in quantity when they were built, so the tape is a higher bias than what the reel to reels were built for. That helps. Keith ------------------------------ From: "MarkS Barnett" Subject: moe.nye Date: Fri, 17 Dec 2004 07:07:30 +0000 looking for tapers going to these shows pls contact me off list marcus ------------------------------ From: "BMR" Subject: TaperConnection.com - any interest? Date: Fri, 17 Dec 2004 00:02:17 -0800 (I hope this isn't considered spam...nothing for sale here) I set up a website at http://www.taperconnection.com that I hope will grow into a place where tapers and fans alike can come together. My idea came about after seeing countless fans bummed out upon finding out there were no tapers at a show they went to. On the other end of the spectrum, there are many people out there who love to gain experience in the hobby of taping, but at times can't find shows they really want to go to. My goal is to bring together these two worlds, and unite fans and tapers. Tapers will post letting people know what shows they're planning on recording, and what city they're in...fans will post asking if tapers will go to shows and record, and tickets can by bought by fans for tapers. This allows tapers to gain experience, and fans to get a keepsake of a memorable show. I'm not delusional in thinking there'll be a gigantic draw for this sort of thing, but I also know there's definitely a niche audience for it that hopefully can grow and grow until it becomes *the* place one would look if trying to organize the recording of a band's tour. If you get a chance, drop a line and let folks know what's shows you're going to soon, taper or fan Thank you very much for the space, -bmr -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Date: Fri, 17 Dec 2004 00:08:29 -0800 (PST) Hey Now All! Long time since I have posted. What with more people using laptops to record, I am a bit behind in computer use. I am looking to download and transfer DATs to a hard drive in a home PC system. Finally, we have cable out here in the sticks! First. I am looking for a soundcard that will not put an analog generation in while resampleing from 32 or 48k recorded DATs. Any suggestions? I would like to find one with digital co-ax (SP/DIF) & optical inputs and analog (RCA) inputs. Most likely asking a lot here but just trying to keep 10+ years of digital recordings as pure as possible. Also what is the best software to get to adjust volume levels, possibly EQ some and track with? I do not want to become a recording engineer here, maybe down the road, but not with good DAT recordings. I will be getting the best Plextor burner for CDs, but is there a better DVD-R/RW burner out there? PLEASE, REMEMBER I AM NOT A CIS MAJOR. Hell I am writing this from my old and trusty NEC with Windows '95. See why I need some serious help!? I am Just an archivist who wants to get the best results from the best, but affordable, equipment so I may pass it on with the highest quality. Computers are easy to use for me as long as I have the best written directions or I am shown how to make them do what I is needed. Simply put, I still use my old slide rule in the field, no shit! Second, I have a data back-up, a Sony SDT-S5000, that has two SCSI connections. One has been used to back-up daily work in conjunction with a networked NT system. I would imagine is the only way to get info into and out of the back-up drive, so I assume it also reads back to the computer. The second connector has a cover that says 'passive' on it. Can this ( does this need to) be used to read DDS DATs with music to the hard-drive? Is there a special program needed to make this work? Will audio DATs work in it? If not no biggie. I still have two DA-20mkIIs and two CDRW-700 standalones that work fine. I would greatly appreciate any solid information on these questions and hope that I get the same support from this group as I did when I moved up to DAT recording. Oh BTW, where is the best place to research the art of downloading? Which is better, FLAC or SHN? Things like that. I am currently reading FAQs at Etree, NOLATAPERS, COTAPERS and any other sites I can find. Well I wish to Thank in Advance anyone who will take the time to help this old man who will be taking a few computer courses in the near future. I am just an old dog who needs to learn new tricks.
