Of course...a matter of taste.
Personaly, I dont think that they are a better mic than a pair of schempz.
more versitile, certainly. cheaper, hell yes. but in my experience, large diaphram mics are not the ideal concert taping mic. A little slow sounding, not quite as snappy as a small diaphragm condensor.
Still, I'd buy 414s before a cmc6/4 setup. any day.

If that was all they could handle, they would suck.
I think its better than 140db.
Plus they have a -10db pad on them if you want to engage it. I've never needed to, but I bet if you were spot micing something like a horn w/it you might want to. Trial and error.
If you want to hear some 414B-ULS recordings, just search around on archive.org. There are tons of them. I've got a couple of good pulls up there.
Derek trucks 11-20-2004 - blumlein FOB. very nice
STS9 4-21-2004 DIN and blumlein (changed between sets).
that will show you what they sound like pretty much...when acoustics are favorable.

Anyone know if the band X allows taping? I know for years they didn't
since Exene was supposedly very much against it, but when I saw them in
2003 in Dallas a guy was running with a mic stand FOB. Since he was a
local I wasn't sure if he had some special deal with security or not. I
know John Doe is cool w/ it, taped him several times a few years ago.
Thanks for any info.
Steve

I have about 38 different shows on many different brands of CD-rs, mostly indie rock, like Sunny Day Real Estate, Cat Power, Cave-In, The Doves and American Analog Set, etc. that I want to get rid of. All I want is $10 for the lot, shipping included (the $10 will really just cover the shipping, the discs are free)
I also have about 35-40 live videos, from QOTSA, Weezer, Rush, WSP, Strokes and many more that I'd also like to give away. I think $10 will cover shipping for those, too.
If you are interested, send me an e-mail. I will send the whole lot (CD or video) to whoever writes me first.
The ONLY requirement is that you can send me the $10 via Paypal. If you don't hear from me, someone beat you to it.
Thanks,
Wes

Looking for a Sony SBM1. Preferably an Oade mod, but a stock unit will
be fine. Drop me an email (wngraham@gmail.com) if you've got one you're
looking to unload.
I'd also be willing to trade my Lunatec V3 (with optical output mod) for
an SBM1 + cash.
Thanks!
