Hi,
with a bleeding heart I am offering my DAT tape collection up for sale! I
really need that space! tapes mostly include ABB and Gov't Mule.
You may visit my DAT tapelist at the following site:
http://people.freenet.de/howeber/TAPELIST.TXT
Here you see all available information about the tapes. The list does not
include the brand of the tapes!
Rules:
I’m asking 2.50 USD per tape.
Shipping & handling will be between 8 and 12 USD, depending on how many
tapes you want (these are airmail fares according to German postal
rates!!!), it can go up to 24.60 € for a BIG package!
I will fulfill all requests on a first come basis! So if you do not get what
you wanted the tape was requested earlier by someone else! Please do not
complain about this! And please don’t ask for any specifics of any show –
remember, I’m offering TAPES, not shows!
All tapes are in excellent condition! They were recorded – as far as I
know – only once!
Most tapes contain complete shows unless noted otherwise.
Most tapes are Sony or Maxell tapes. Please do NOT ask about a specific
show!
All tapes have printed DAT jcards, some are handwritten.
Payment: The easiest way is transfer via paypal! Although I have to charge
you an extra 5 % off the total amount since paypal is charging me for it!
You may send cash to my private address (see below).
Tapes will be shipped immediately after I received the money. Shipping will
take about a week.

I use the Etymotic ER-4P connected to an iPod when I run the
lawnmower. This makes the lawnmower quiet enough to be effectively
silent. Etymotic rates the isolation at 33db with plastic tips and
40db with foam tips. If you use shooter style headphones, like from
David Clark, the isolation they provide will be additive. This type
of headphone seals a lot better than the noise-cancelling consumer
models from Bose and Sony.
The main problem with trying to do what you're doing is that you
can't isolate your body from the sound pressure waves in the room
you're located in. With kilowatt bass amps pummeling your gut, it
makes a difference as to what you think you're hearing. In other
words, there's prolly gonna be too much bass before you even feed a
signal to the headphones. Still, it's better than going deaf trying
to get a mix in a high SPL environment.

I have had a pair of Etymotics for almost 2 years now, and can't say
enough great things about them....I've done everything from recording
live shows to semi-studio recording sessions to listening to my PJB-100
mp3 player with them. They performed brilliantly in all situations.
I've always thought they provided plenty of isolation when recording in
loud situations, and the sound reproduction is excellent.
They make a train, plane, or bus ride a much more pleasant experience!
Sorry I can't comment on any of the noise-cancelling headphone models.
Cheers,
James

First off, noise-cancelling headphones are not useful
in any live setting. The etymotics are good, but I
like the shures better, and the E3Cs are cheaper.
Recording several shows a week, sometimes right in
front of the PA, I've found that the E3Cs work
wonderfully. I can even use them for accurate mic/line
mixing.

I'm hosting a line-in and ADC blind comparison of the Nomad JB3 v.
D100. The JB3 is already well proven as a recorder when fed a digital
signal, but many doubt it's line-in and ADC capabilities. This comp should
give people a good idea how the JB3 sounds relative to the D100 (IMO pretty
darn good). You can find the comparison on www.easytree.org:

If you have not seen this yet, its worth a read, for a laugh if nothing
more. The man has clearly lost his mind. Too many years of polyester shirts,
I think.
He did get one thing right though. Sometimes half the fun of stealth taping
is getting away with it. :-)

I've experienced mixed results from using alkaline 9v batteries. I've
never used the Nimh but hear they are not very reliable either. I
recently wrote to Sonosax about using an external battery pack for
powering the M2. Their reply was any DC source between 12-18 volts is
fine. Your run time using a 7 amp 12V would be over 85 hours. This is
based on the 2mA microphone draw. You can purchase a right angle Sonosax
plug and cord for about $4 delivered. Using a 2-3 amp battery would
still be relatively stealth for folks doing that. you won't have to swap
out 9V between sets, worry about them dying on you and it contributes
fewer batteries to your neighborhood landfill.

When did that happen? (The isolation with the custom-made earphones
is only about 20dB.) I haven't even seen standalone foam earplugs
rated at 40dB.
> If you use shooter style headphones, like from
> David Clark, the isolation they provide will be additive.
Not necessarily. I can (in theory) describe a pair of 10dB earplugs
and 10dB earphones that together provide 10dB, or a different 10dB
earphone that makes the combination over 100dB. It depends on how the
frequency attenuation curves match up.

Yes, it does; but it doesn't have the active noise-cancellation.
