CVB has a new album out- NEW ROMAN TIMES, and it's GREAT!! Seriously,
it's my favorite disc of 2004, and I think it's the best CVB album
ever.
Taping is TOTALLY COOL with the band- NO STEALTH REQUIRED, and they are
playing SOME FREE SHOWS in record stores!!
At this point, I think we only have St louis, Memphis and Nashville
covered by a DAT recordist. . . a minidisc-er seems to tape most of the
southern CVB shows, but I am hoping we can get some of these with full
44.1 or higher.
CVB shows may be posted on archive.org and etree.org- there are 31 up
so far. See
http://www.archive.org/audio/etreelisting-browse.php?
cat=Camper%20Van%20Beethoven
I would love to trade, on CD, FLAC or DAT, for any CVB I don't have,
especially new shows.
thanks!

Camper!
Camper Van Beethoven is hitting the road and making stops in Tennessee,
Texas, and Florida with a few other stops along the way (St Louis,

There are several confirmed instore shows along the way too. They are
usually at local record stores and CVB plays around 30+ minutes. These
are the best place to get stuff signed - so drag out your old vinyl and
get it signed.

As far as "highly addictive drugs" killing Jerry
Garcia I would have to agree. Nicotine certainly
could have been the addictive drug that killed him.
As far as David Lindley is concerned , in a previous
post I asked " who the heck is David Lindley?" Well
thanks to stealth taping, now I do. I mean he isnt a
household name or anything, no offense. He should look
at the positive side of taping..more exposure .
I think everyone that doesnt want to be taped
because they are worried about tapes of their shows
being sold on ebay should be more concerned about
their official releases being downloaded off the
internet . That is the down fall of the record
industry, for now.

I've hung with David Lindley and done some interviews with him. Never once
mentioned that I had stealthed his shows with El Rayo X back in the
80s....but we did talk about the recording thing. The man has been ripped
off in a big way by "recordists" dating back to his days with
Kaliedoscope...especially in England. He had a new tune which he debuted
live in London circa 1973 (?) and someone taped the show. Seems that
"someone" was actually an English musician who already had a few hits. The
guy took David's original melody and used it for his own song which,
subsequently, came out commercially and made the man some bucks. Without
going into the gory details, one can understand Lindley's predicament.
Knowing someone is recording changes how he approaches performing. This
takes away his control of his own gig. I think we can respect his wishes.
Anyone who refuses to go see one of the best stringed instrumentalists in
the world because he is anti-taping is simply a jackass and doesn't truly
enjoy music and art for what it is: pleasure.
The rant about Jerry Garcia was a bit over the top; however, I see his
point: overzealous fans can suck the life out of any artist. If you don't
think deadhead demand played a role in Garcia's early flame out, then you
don't know much about the inner workings of the GD and their reliance on
Garcia as the keeper of the flame. Even the band members have admitted to
this. But that's not really the point here. Lindley has every right to his
opinions, whereas tapers do NOT have any rights to tape. Dave

The funny thing about David Lindley is that he sells bootleg copies of his
own shows at his shows. That is his right,I guess, but I find it ironic
that he is selling the bootlegs he so despises.
BUT, go see him, he still rips.....even if he seems a little nutty

Along these lines, anyone know if you can power the various COS-11
capsules the same way? I have a pair of COS-11BP mics that I'd
like to build a battery box for, probably using the Sanken schematic
for the COS-11PT's. I figure I can splice mini-XLR's inline so I
can use either the battery box or the existing connectors. But
all this is predicated on being able to power the BP mics with a
9V battery (they're normally powered by one AA). So, anyone know
if all the COS-11 capsules can be powered the same way? BTW, these
are not the high SPL caps (red dot, or whatever they are).

Also consider that although you may not intend, ever, to
profit from what you record. Others still can. Once you
trade a recording your intent is no longer relevant. Because
someone can quite easily take your recording, mix it,
duplicate it and sell it. And there's not a damn thing you
can do about it.
As I see it you have two choices. Tape the show and don't
trade it to anyone, or don't tape it at all.

For Sale:
Sony D8 with Pro-Digital 7 Pin &
Digimod UA-5 with dual 9.6v RC Battery Pack system
- Sony D8 with Pro-Digital 7 Pin - $275 obo + shipping for package
D8 was purchased from a hospital in Jan '02. Hospital had used the decks
for speech therapy and put 20 or so hours on the heads via the analog
in. This deck was then sent to Pro-Digital and given a clean bill of
health. Since then I have used the deck to tape 20 or so shows, and other
than that it has just sat in my gear bag. It's been flawless for me since
I bought it, so I would say it is in very good condition. Comes with wall
wart, but no pleather case as that was lost. The 7 pin was purchased new
from Pro-Digital in Jan '02 as well and is a little beat up but works just
fine. The cable has duct tape around top for support and the analog/digital
switch broke off but can be switched back and forth with tweezers if really
necessary. Make me an offer if interested.
- Digimod UA-5 with dual 9.6v RC Battery Pack system - $250 firm + shipping
for package
UA-5 was purchased on ebay in May '04 from a taper that was using the
analog rca outs only. I purchased the unit and sent it down to a friend
that had the digimod done at his electronics company. So the soldering was
done by a professional and not by me. It has worked perfectly for me to
tape about 10 shows and is in perfect condition. Comes with original box
and all accessories. The battery system is made from a Radio Shack 9.6v RC
Battery system and comes with two batteries, a charger, and a power cable
to run the batteries to the UA-5.
I have pictures of everything above that I can email to you if there is
interest. I am selling this because I now run a JB3 and no longer need the
D8. Also upgrading to a Wmod UA-5 and have a Wal-Mart battery, so this
unit and battery system is no longer needed.
If interested please email me at: dueling@magpage.com
thanks

Heroin didn't kill Jerry, Burger King did. I used to work at Whole Earth
Access in San Rafael and Jerry Garcia used to go to the Burger King two
doors away a couple of times a day. I used to see him there regularly and
often times his BMW as well. This is one of many reason why I don't eat at
Burger King.

Gregory

hey everyone.. I work at a studio in Detroit. we recently recieved some
brand new DAT recorders and we were hoping someone would like them... We
have not used them in the studio (they are still in the box) but if you
would like them here is what we would like for them:
D8: it was $700 if you want it its $650
M1: it was $900 if you want it its $850
they both have no hours on them since they are still in the box...
unopened. The studio manager didn't know what he was buying so I thought
maybe someone here at DAT heads would want them. as we already have 5
Tascam DAT decks! so please e-mail me if you would like them... I might
let the prices go down if we can figure something out.. but the manager
would like this.. cheers everyone!
Adrian.
P.S.- if anyone has any questions about these decks you may e-mail me as
well. they are not opened and they are brand new!!!!

Hey People,
Anyone have a nice copy of the NYE Mule show? I passed on taping cause
I had front row seats and thought I'd just buy the Muletracks. Now,
thanks to the f'n union working the Beacon, Mule can't, at least at this
point, release their shows from the 30th and 31st (that's what Lindley
should be bitching about %^)
Can anyone help me out, please?? I can trade or B&P. Thanks f/ the
space...
