Subject: RE: LOOKING FOR ADVICE FOR THE ORPHEUM IN BOSTON Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2005 13:38:18 -0500 As you indicated, the big open circle over the orchestra - underneath the balcony, is the outer lobby of the balcony where people have been known to hang out and talk - even during the show. There couldn't possibly be a worse area to record. The balcony is too high as it is above the speakers. Front/mid orchestra is probably best...row KK to RR. The lower Mezzanine might be good too. rockcat ============================================================================ From: RIANGIE3@aol.com Subject: Re: LOOKING FOR ADVICE FOR THE ORPHEUM IN BOSTON Date: Thu, 10 Feb 2005 12:19:06 -0500 This is a weird ass venue. There is a big open circle over the orchestra - underneath the balcony. believe it or not this is where it always sounded best to me and could safely be considered the "sweet spot" your looking for.. the only problem is it is hallway-ish and people tend to congregate here.. so you may have some feedback noise from them. i wouldn't advise taping in the Balcony area because it can be absolute fucking madness upthere. Orchestra area seems safe.. but there's heavy bass roll off in the front rows like any venue. I've only seen heavy rock shows there though because that's who usually comes there ;) Good Luck! Sheldon ------------------------------ From: "Kenneth Dudzik" Subject: ISO Brazilian Tapers Reply-To: Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2005 12:59:34 -0600 Hi DAT-Heads, I am looking for tapers in Brazil. There is a big open circle over the orchestra - >underneath the balcony. believe >it or not this is where it always sounded best >to me and could safely be considered the "sweet spot" This guy is either high, or messing w/you. the "whole" in the balcony looks down deep into the back rows of the floor section. Absolutely NOT a place to record from. Its a place to drink because they typicaly dont let you in the seated sections w/a beer. I've never seen anyone tape there, and if I did, i'd probably point and laugh like Nelson Muntz. What you want is Mezzanie section. Front and center, any of the 3 rows available, but the first is the best. they make you sit, so you can "hand hold" or clamp to the rail, or tape a small stand so that the mics are just over the rail...whatever works. In the Orchestra pit, you are looking for rows PP and forward foward, center if possible. Staying out from under the balcony overhang helps A LOT!...but you can still pull something decent if you are under it ...a little. Try going to their web site, or TM and looking at a seat map to give you an idea. The images are poor, and the seat numbers/sections are hard to read,....but it will give you a good idea. ------------------------------ ** FOR YOUR REFERENCE ** To unsubscribe from this digest, please send email to dat-heads-unsubscribe@datheads.phish.net If your email address has changed, you may (optionally) send the message to dat-heads-unsubscribe-oldaddress=olddomain@datheads.phish.net and the old address will be removed.
