Hello
Please excuse the rookie question. Just purchased a Sony M1 and would like
to know the optimal settings to use for the settings on the back of the unit
for live recording? Any help would be appreciated.
Please contact off list.
Thanks,
-Brian

I had a little trouble finding the country of origin on these 50-packs,
2/$35, at Office Depot. Turns out it's just above the barcode, inside
the barcode "box," and on Wilshire Blvd in LA they were made in
Japan! Also, they are 8X write speed and a slightly different shade
of yellow than the 4X ones. (Imagine, writing a full DVD in under 8
minutes!)
Also, not to be an ad for Office Depot, but they have a 160GB HD
for $49.99 after rebates. 160GB is the best side for a TiVo, as the
Linux kernal in TiVo is limited to 127GB. Rather than adding a 2nd
drive to the TiVo, the new preferred hack seems to be to clone your
existing drive onto a larger drive, and put the old drive away as a
back-up. Also, (in theory because I have not tried this), when you
completely run out of space on your new 160GB drive, you can
reclone the original drive to a new 160GB drive, and then with some
difficulty, swap between the 160GB drives on the same TiVo (by
Swap, of course, I mean turn the power off, change drives, and
reboot). Note that you cannot generally change drives between
different TiVos because they are serialized.

I have a Sony PCM-R500 DAT pro dat deck for sale. Here is a blurb with

Sony PCM-R500 DAT Deck; Professional DAT recorder with four direct-drive
motors; Shuttle and Jog Dial; Extensive interface options (including disabling
SCMS copy function); Multiple menu modes; With 8-pin wired remote plus
wireless remote; Independent Channel 1 & 2 record level controls; Analog
Input/Output: Balanced (XLR), Unbalanced (RCA); Digital I/O: AES/EBU (XLR), Coaxial
(RCA); Stereo phone jack with level adjustment; Parallel DIN 8-pin remote
interface; Size: 5 3/4"H x 19"W x 14"D; Weight: 15 lb. 14 oz.
You can find more info as well as a review on the unit where I swiped the
above info:
http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_4_2/sonydat.html
I purchased this unit brand new on 10/2/00, so it is only a little over 4
years old. I am the original owner and paid $909.50 for it including tax. It is
still is fantastic cosmetic and operating condition, and comes in the
original box, along with the wireless remote, operation manual, and power cord.
I was not the average DAT trader. I don't think I ever cloned a tape on this
unit during the 4 years I have had it. I also did not play tapes on the unit
on a regular basis. I would record a show on my M-1 or D-8, then use the 500
to transfer the show to CD. I am not a DAT listener as some folks are. I
prefer to transfer to CD, then store the DATs. The unit was used just a handful
of times a month over it's lifetime, and sometimes not for a few weeks at a
time.
To my knowledge, Sony is no longer making DAT machines. I have seen several
of these on e-bay for between $350-$500. Mine is for the most part like new
and will provide excellent service to it's new owner. I would like to get
$450, and I will pay shipping anywhere in the U.S. If you are overseas, you are
welcome to purchase the machine, but be aware the shipping is about $80 to
Europe, and this is a 115V machine.
Please e-mail me if you have questions or want more information about the
machine. I can send a few pics if you like.
I would prefer to sell it to someone who has paypal and can pay for it
immediately. I can accept credit cards through Paypal.
I am also selling a large portion of my DAT collection, most of which are
masters recorded on AKG 414TL-2's>OadeM248>SBM-1>D8. Please see my other post
if that interests you.
If you are interested in the tapes and the DAT deck, I will make you a good
deal on both.
Thanks,
Wes

After 8 years of taping and trading shows, I have finally decided that this
is no longer for me. I had some great times, and some frustrating times, but
I met some nice people along the way and heard a lot of great music, of all
different styles.
I have sold both rigs, my M-1, and now I need to sell the tapes and my
PCM-R500. Please see my other post if that interests you.
This is an excellent opportunity to start a DAT collection, or fill in gaps
in your own. These are good quality, barely played tapes, mostly made on
Audio grade HHB, Sony or Maxell DATs. Only a handful are on 90M tapes.
Most of what I am offering here are jam-band masters, recorded from
1997-2001. Shows denoted with an * were recorded on AKG 414 TL-2's>OadeM248>SBM-1>D8.
Many of the tapes have printed tape covers with setlist and rig info. Some
tapes do not have source info, but most do. As I do not have a tapelist, I
have no quick way to import all of the info to this post, so I will have to
quickly type just the artist and date. All shows are complete unless noted. There
are a total of around 295 tapes, unless I miscounted 1 or 2.
I would like $550 OBO for the tapes (which is less than $2 each for tapes
that cost me an average of $5) and I'll pay shipping in the US. First dibs go
to whoever wants them all. If no one wants to buy the whole lot, I'll make
another post offering them in lots. But I would prefer to sell them all, or a
majority of them, to one person.
Here is a list of the shows.
