You need a part called the Sony DCP-80. This allows CD input from
12-18 volts to power the D10. They're hard to find, but not
impossible. Once you have that, you can run the D10 off any 12-volt
combo- a sled of alkalines, or lithums, or nicads, or the most common
option- a 12V SLA battery (sealed lead acid- like a car battery, only
sealed)

I have a Sony PCM-R500 DAT pro dat deck for sale. Here is a blurb with

I purchased this unit brand new on 10/2/00, so it is only a little over 4
years old. I am the original owner and paid $909.50 for it including tax. It is
still is fantastic cosmetic and operating condition, and comes in the
original box, along with the wireless remote, operation manual, and power cord.
There is only a low total 655 hours on the unit.
I was not the average DAT trader. I don't think I ever cloned a tape on this
unit during the 4 years I have had it. I also did not play tapes on the unit
on a regular basis. I would record a show on my M-1 or D-8, then use the 500
to transfer the show to CD. I am not a DAT listener as some folks are. I
prefer to transfer to CD, then store the DATs. The unit was used just a handful
of times a month over it's lifetime, and sometimes not for a few weeks at a
time.
To my knowledge, Sony is no longer making DAT machines. I have seen several
of these on e-bay for between $350-$500. Mine is for the most part like new
and will provide excellent service to it's new owner. I would like to get $450
OBO, and I will pay shipping anywhere in the U.S. If you are overseas, you
are welcome to purchase the machine, but be aware the shipping is about $80 to
Europe, and this is a 115V machine.
Please e-mail me if you have questions or want more information about the
machine. I can send a few pics if you like. I have already boxed it up for the
original buyer, but if necessary will take it back out for photos.
I would prefer to sell it to someone who has paypal and can pay for it
immediately. I can accept credit cards through Paypal.

Wondering what the security situation is like? Similar to the Avalon? Any
recommendations on where to stand?

I haven't been using it very much recently (more
focused on old stereo gear than taping lately), so it
is time to sell my faithful Sony D-100. It has
several hundred hours on it, but it has never given me
a single problem. I can email pics upon request. I
will include a Sony 7-pin coax in/out cable with the
deck. I would like to get $300 for the deck and
cable.
